Need help with kitchen. I'm stuck. (pictures)

I need some help with my kitchen here are some photos, please excuse the mess as we have been working in their.

We replaced the cabinet doors, put up new cabinets in the eat-in-kitchen part with a all new counter tops, took out the kitchen table, put in breakfast bar, just finished putting up tile, and fresh paint (not sure about the color), just finished sewing new curtains, new floor installed, new lightening, new windows, new crown moulding on cabinets, not painted yet. This weekend i am going to re-paint all the cabinets with SW alabaster in a semi-gloss, i originally used a satin and it is not holding up. I just need some advice (or encourgement), this is the third time i've painted the kitchen. Also what type of window treatment would you use over the sink, i don't want the same one as over the other window, but i will be using the same fabric. also the brick, what to do with that ugly mess. Once i'm all done, the place will be decluttered, and hopefully sparkling clean (until my 5 and 7 year old boys get into it). Look forward to any and all ideas. thanks.

Love your fabric!!!.. for over the sink I can see it two ways.. handkercief points with some sort of trim.. or tight shaped padded valance to mimic the shape of the other window treatment.

As for the brick.. take all the stuff down.. keep one striking item at most or piece of art.. you could think of toning down the brick a bit with just a touch of mocha that you mix up in a clear glazing medium.. it would help town down the red tones that are making it feel more busy.

I have the orginal cooking chimney still in my kitchen. I love the look of brick but it can be a bugger if it's not the color way you are trying to go!

I just wanted to add a few more pics so you could see my decorating style to see what i am trying to go for in my kitchen, i am just really stuck with this room, i can't seem to get it right. sorry for some of the big pics below, i tried and tried to resize them, but they kept coming back big. thanks again.

I'd choose a flush mount option.. then, while the builder works on walls etc, I'd go on local E Bay/Etsy and check flush mount lights from mid-century modern period. That was a time of lower ceilings etc. they really thought about how to make these beautiful, as opposite to now. Some lights I saw there were really nice. They were listed also by European sellers so you wouldn't have problem with parts etc. I bought one from an Italian store, and I love it. It's not modern at all. It's very Murano glass heavy)) It wouldn't fit your purposes as you need something flatter and fully covered I believe; but just saying that checking vintage may have sense, in your case. The prices will be better too.

Good advice about the plot plan from Babs. Understand, too, Joe, that we don't need something pretty for a board room presentation .... just something fairly accurate and that explains with some lines, dots and notes. (BTW, it is best to show a dot for a tree trunk instead of a canopy. The LESS busy the plan, the better. Most people try to put in too much and the plan can quickly become unreadable. We don't need to see every individual daisy. If you would get started a little I could advise, but it's hard to advise out of thin air.) I think you are mainly talking about creating the BED LINE (which would separate grass from all the other planted things, except a few trees that are in the lawn), paths, and the addition of a couple of elements (stock tank, table & chairs and fire pit.) Paths are often made to follow a bed line and act as the edge of a bed. We'll see if this makes sense in your case. But working out the bed line, paths and siting of elements is done as a 2-dimensional exercise. It couldn't be done from your photos because the area is too large and we can't see many things because they are too far away, blocked by foliage, or we don't know how one area fits with another. Neither is there a way to communicate back to you an OVERALL, artistically pleasant scheme for tying things together. You need to SEE it on a plan in order to be able to understand it .... whether you like and agree with it. BTW, if anyone else is considering adding many elements to their yard, they should create the plan before they turn the first shovel of dirt. It is fine to let the sun and existing conditions guide one's efforts. It's necessary actually! However, it should guide efforts one's efforts on to paper FIRST so that all the details (like how to make the bed lines, paths and element locations artistically pleasing, will fit, be properly organized, and avoid as many mistakes as possible). Then, one won't be "terrified of finalizing something [they're] going to hate"!

you have a lovely space that you are working with. it has many great elements and you have a great base to work with. heres some thoughts. I think you have way too many brown accents and it just needs more texture and dimension. I would consider adding a rug in front of the fireplace, possibly two irregular size rugs to layer like a cowhide and a flokati. I agree the fireplace should be painted white. I might consider new blinds like a rattan for more texture. add a reading light and a small table next to the leather chair and you will have a great little spot. for the other area, I would get new coffee table and a new console for the TV, possibly a stained black wood. I might consider more of a multicolored rug like a Persian style perhaps and then additional pillows on the chairs and sofas that have a bunch of texture like velvet or linen . heres a few inspiration pics

Art is very personal - what I like might not appeal to you. Look on-line (Arttwo50.com; icanvas.com; greatbigcanvas.com); usually you can enter some criteria such as Landscapes, Floral, Modern, size, even a major color you want. See what you like, and consider if overall the colors will go with your gray sofa, maybe your console color, etc. I think when you see some, you'll be able to narrow it to a few. The wall behind your sofa can take a large size. Pros on this forum will help you when you have a few you are considering. From the artwork, you can think about colors for pillows and a rug.

Can you put beadboard over the brick and paint it the same color as the cabinets?

Thats a great creative idea with the beadboard coverup, it opens all kinds of fun options. You could even add storage on the side with a pantry or tall built in bookcase ect. On the wide part of the bead board hang a caulk board and a place to tack on notes and you would have a great message center for all those teens in the house.

Thanks for the great ideas. I took everything off of the brick, cleaned it up and i think i am going to tone it down with some paint, as mentioned above. If that does not work, i'll defintely try the beadboard to give it a more finished looked. I think my husband's burnt out from all the reno's we've been doing. Kitchens, done now, (except for brick wall). I'll post pictures soon. Thanks again.
