Tile tacks or 2x2 metalic accent tiles

I just purchased my backsplash - 6x6 botticino tumbled natural stone. We'll be installing the tiles in a diamond pattern. I love it but DH says it will be boring. To compromise I've agreed to add tile tacks or 2x2 metallic accent tiles. I'm thinking pewter to match our hardware.

Has anyone used either of these products? I've love to see pictures and hear about your installation experiences from the DIYers.

I like the idea of the tile tacks! I think they will look great with your tumbled stone.

I used 2 x 2" stainless tiles as accents behind the range with the glass mosaics. I'm less sure this would work for you.

Not only that, but he did a crappy job with the one he did to begin with!! He never should've put that small piece at the bottom-- should've been two equal pieces top and bottom. Then you could even put your accents where the 4 courners of the tiles came together!! Sorry-- can you tell I have no patience for hacks that rape their customers?

My brand new master shower does not have a pre sloped pan. They also had a very hard time sloping my mosiac tiles during install(long thin tiles). It looks/works fine now, please tell me it does not need to be redone... If it's new construction and does not meet code, I'd want it to meet code. You'll get a better shower and the installer will learn to follow code. Or you can leave it as is. You may not ever have problems...or you may have problems. The irony? I'm not a tile guy like Bill. Yet I still know code. Why do Bill and I know code? Simply because we're professionals. He in his field, me in mine. We didn't flunk out of cooking school, or get fired from our jobs at the factory, or flunk out of college, and decide as an alternative to set tile or build houses. And if we had flunked out of cooking school, that's cool...as long as we learn about our new job before we pick up a margin trowel and bust open a bag of thinset for the first time. I'd say close to 70% of people in construction build incorrectly. That's inexcusable. When I buy a new car I shouldn't have to learn about internal combustion engines and then visit the plant to make sure the line guys are building my car correctly. I got mine from Landmark Metalcoat who has alot of different finishes. My accents were silver because that is what I thought looked best with the backsplash tile. For that small area I'd suggest just buying a bag or two of tile spacers and just get going (buy an extra bag in case you run short.) It won't take forever if you apply the adhesive to the wall and comb it smooth an thin (as opposed to backbuttering each tile individually). Think it through and test before you begin, so the edges end up where you need them to be. Don't forget to tamp the tiles in with the rubber float, which may require you to use the spacers "flat to the wall" as opposed to sticking out.

In my searching last night I saw some gorgeous ones, but did not save the site. If it helps, I had google searched "decorative liner tile" or something like "decorative tile" and then chose the image option. I bet they would look great with your tile.

Bill, I had to do a Google Images search for tile tacks, too.

They are tiny medallions that go in the corner junction of tiles.

I am going to use tile tacks on my backsplash!! They are really beautiful with the right tile.

I discovered tile tacks this week while searching for 2x2 metallic accent tiles. They are pretty cool.

gsciencechick: I like your backsplash! The blue looks great with the stainless steel.

Okay-- I just never heard them called that. I've always just known them as "clips and dots" (Clipped corners of the field tiles)

I won't be doing the top and bottom of this picture, but it will be the Rhomboids and the tacks in an every other pattern vs. the every space pattern in the pic.

Isn't a tile tack an actual tack-looking thing that goes into the grout? Not necessarily requiring clipping of the field tile corners? I picked one up from Fla Tile recently... They had some nice options.

I wondered how easy they are to clean around, seeing as how they pop up from the tile itself. Anyone know?

Oh, duh... that first picture from gsciencechick shows a side view. Yep, that's the same thing. I'm with ya now. With the little stem on it. Is that the same as "clips and dots", Bill? Want to keep my terminology straight so I look smart talking to tile guys :)

Still... cleanability? Functional? I've only seen displays, not real-life action.
