Bump - hoping someone can help me with info on this chair

That would have to be a super advanced woodshop class. The style reminds me a bit of an antique settee that my mother inherited from my grandmother.

Well, at this point any lead on style (if at all), time period of manufacture, or whatever to help me find any info at all would be preferrable over DH's pronouncement. That, I think, would really surprise me, lol.

However, if this was/is a student's wood shop project, he or she must be pretty talented!

Whenever I see engraving in flat wood planks I tend toward Eastlake, Arts & Crafts or Gothic revival, but none of those seem to fit that chair, given the curves elsewhere in the design. It's an interesting chair.

Here's a picture of my mom's settee. I don't know anything about it, except that it was in my grandparen't home for as long as I can remember. My great grandmother owned an antique store and it probably came from there, sometime in the 40s or earlier.

I always thought that the piece in the center looked like a man in a fancy helmet.

I don't know what it is, but I like it a lot. It would fit in with my collection of strays ;)

I think it looks like Italianate Renaissance Revival.

You might not know anything about antiques but you're right, this is a cool piece. Last night I typed a long post explaining its general style, the historic influences, the period--that is, way more than most people want to know--but then the Internet hiccuped & it all went away. And after that I decided to forget it and go to bed.

Anyway, so it's a new day and I'm not going to go through it all again, but I can tell you your chair is probably 1895 to maybe 1910. No clue on maker--lots of companies mades such things--or value, because I'm not an appraiser. But this will be a start for you.

DH is so NOT even in like with it. I would love to schpeel off some tidbit of info to justify my absolute need to have this chair in my home! I loved it the moment I saw it, but kept himming and hawling. Finally went back and paid what they were asking, less 20%. Wasn't a fortune or anything, but DH thinks it looks like a high school wood working project! Would be much more fun for me if I could prove him wrong, lol. I know, let it go...
