what do you think about any of these?

I prefer the mirrors and chancy there now, probably because they are my "style".

But it sounds like they no longer are yours.

So what don't you like about the current pieces, what is going on in the rest of your home, and what DO you like about the options you showed above? Do you have any inspiration pictures you can post to give us a sense of what you are trying to get the room and your home to be?

I like the ones you have there now. They are really lovely. I don't care for any of the ones you posted but I am hopelessly old fashioned.

I was trying to make my space a little more contemporary. I like a mix of styles to some degree. That is why I bought the chandy, but I'm told it is too small. I know it is too high. The mirrors were there before I bought that chandy and I think it went better with the previous chandy that was more transitional style. I guess I am trying to just put things together and I need help. I personally like the chandy and the mirrors, but I'm not sure they go together. The mirrors I posted are more contemporary.

Here is a pic of the adjoining living area that I've been trying to put together as well and tie the rooms intogether. The red pillows and throw blanket, and the floor lamp and coffee table were just ideas that I had to see what others thought. I'm decorating challenged.

This is the pic with a possibility for a coffee table. I like the idea of wood and iron for a coffee table, but not even sure about that. I have about 106 inches from left side of sectional to inside corner, so it requires something other than standard size coffee table.

I like what you have now too, but of the ones you are considering, I like the 2nd. I think you've got enough round and the others compete with your gorgeous chandelier.

This is another Uttermost mirror I thought might look nice with your wall color & furniture tones. May I ask what your dining room paint color is. I'm looking for a paint color for my dining room.

Thank you, romy. What a nice mirror. It's a matte black with silver trim on the inside and outside edges. It's also 48x48, so it would make quite a statement.

The paint color is SW Portabello. I really like it.

The Uttermost Odalis is smaller than your 3 mirrors and would make a statement. Would it be too much...I have no idea. Maybe others with vision will chime in. You could also consider putting it on your other wall with the candle sconces and a piece of art over the buffet. Is the other wall a longer wall? I love your white molding on the lower walls. Wonder if DH would consider that for our DR. Thanks for the paint color. Good timing as I'm going shopping tomorrow for sample colors.

I think you need something that offsets your chandelier. The cut glass ones you are considering are too much the same. I'm not suggesting this specific one, but just something that contrasts with the chandelier. Something with antiqued glass might look good.

I'm with Julie and Holly-Kay in liking the combo you have now.

I think the mirrors you have are fine. If you want to add drama, paint the frames black or even red. But what you need to do is add a couple of larger, bolder pieces in front of the mirrors...be it a sculpture, piece of art glass or even some ceramic or metal buffet lamps or large candle sticks with fat candles. The flowers that are there are too delicate and fade into the background.

Then on the blank wall, put a large piece of contemporary art that includes some red with the tan. Maybe something like this:

But like the others I also like what you have. If you move

Sorry I missed that you are changing the chandelier. Still, I don't think the cut glass ones you're considering really complement your room. The one Romy posted has more the modern elegant feel of your furnishings. The others seem too flashy, imo. I think a frame of some sort that adds more weight would also work better.

My perspective is from the non-traditional side. I can see where you are going. I like all the round mirrors you posted. You have to make sure you choose the right size. My suggestion would be to tape the wall with a X the size of the mirror you are most interested in.

i love the mirrors that you have, but agree that you could find a mirror for over the server that will give your dining room a more contemporary and elegant feel...
i think most of the mirrors you pictured would be too small for over the server... the very 1st one you pictured is the overall largest, but i don't think it would look great...
i do think the size of the mirror that romy posted is much better tho the mirror itself is quite small and it would be a totally different look than what you were showing with the black...
uttermost has alot of great mirrors and lots of good sizes- look through them all if you haven't yet!

I remember your chandy thread and reread it. The consensus was the chandy needed to be replaced with a bigger one. To my eye, the chandy and table look proportional, but the chairs and table do not. The chairs really dominate the room, and I would be concerned that a larger chandy, along with the chairs, will engulf the table. Without correcting that problem, the room may never look quite right.

I'm hoping there's a leaf for the table, and I would put it in, even if it means removing the sideboard from the room. Before I bought art and mirrors, I'd find the right style chandy, since it's a permanent (and expensive) part of the room.

romy, yes, the adjacent wall is a longer wall than the buffet wall.

snookums, thank you for posting that mirror. I like the look of antiqued glass, and you are probably right about the mirrors I posted being too flashy for my space. Also, of the mirrors I posted, you said you liked the gold-toned one. I can see why since it adds a little more contrast to the chandy.

Annie, great ideas you have and really nice bold artwork! And you are right about needing to replace my current accessories with something more bold.

dominoswrath, I love the look of mirrors hung horizontally over doors. Mine, however, I believe are too long and would extend past the door frame on both sides.

jerseygirl, it's nice to meet a like mind. :) I do think most of these mirrors are smaller than I would really like for the space probably though.

busybee, maybe I should just keep the mirrors I have since you and others seem to like them there. I was under the impression that they didn't go very well.

Here's a closeup of my mirrors. They are a weathered white with a brownish colored inside (whatever those things are called). Maybe I should go ahead and paint the frames black, and maybe even the iron looking pieces on the inside black as well? Or black frame and leave the brown things the way they are?

may, I understand what you are saying, and in the picture, it does look like that. When I look at it in real life, I don't see that as much. Since I love my set and it was expensive, I don't plan to replace it. Also, the table is not made to put a leaf in it, so that won't work. I'll just have to work with what I have.

I love round shapes but agree that a rectangular mirror would work better with the curved shapes of your chairs. So, I vote for the first rectangular one.
However, I also have a question: What is being reflected, and is it something 'worthwhile? In other words, maybe some dramatic modern large art work or large black and white photography would work better.

I agree with painting the frames, but I'd paint them dark brown to closely match whatever color the wood on the buffet below is, then add a semi gloss poly.

OT - Romy, if you like that wall color, you should also look at BM Berkshire Beige. We just put it on our hall walls (at 75%) where there's almost no natural light, and on a living room wall (which is full of sunlight) and it's beautiful.

I really like the current mirrors after seeing the close-up. Painting the "antiqued" white will give them a bolder, more transitional look. I would paint the outer frame black and leave the brown/coppery looking metal as is.

I would also put a larger, more substantial centerpiece on the table to complement the large, heavier looking chairs - something with heighth. Did you see Trailrunners post with her pussy-willow arrangement? Maybe something like that.

nosoccermom, I would be happy to go with a large piece of artwork instead, but I thought because this area doesn't get as much natural light, a mirror would work. The sun that comes in the windows on the opposite side of the room could reflect off the mirror. My living area and dining area are open to each other.

justgotabme, thanks for the ideas. If the frames on the mirrors are painted a color close to the buffet, it would tie in with the buffet and also the thingamajiggers on the mirrors themselves.

tuesday, I think black on the frames would look good too. I think that would look even better than the brown. Yes, to the more substanial looking centerpiece. I will have to look for Trailrunners post. Thank you.

That's exactly what I was thinking natureperson. They wouldn't be easy to paint so leaving them be would be the easiest.

I think you can tape it and paint it. I wouldn't use spray paint as you risk getting drips or overspray on the mirror. Use a small angled brush.

Your home has beautiful architecture. I adore those arched windows and floor to ceiling drapes. Lovely.
