Pic of almost complete kitchen

Thanks for all your advice and help. If I did this right there should be a picture along with this message of how our kitchen has turned out so far. We still have some tiling backsplash to do and some painting but I'm very happy at how this all turned out. Thanks for all your help and advice, this has been a great place to come for advice.

Thank you for the compliments. We love it and also think it is a HUGE improvement (anything would have been with that kitchen!). The cabinets are natural cherry with 4 or 5 coats of poly(heck, we even cut down the tree and milled the lumber years ago. This is the 2nd kitchen we've done with the wood.) We weren't sure what type of flooring to put down. As much as I like the look of hardwood in kitchens, I knew it was something I didn't want in my own kitchen (plus with the cabinets, it'd be too much, IMO....and we have 2 dogs and 2 little kiddos). So we actually ended up with a vinyl floor, thinking we'd switch it out with real tile someday....but I love the look of it, so I'm not in a rush! I really appreciate the tile/backsplash suggestion and love the look of them from what I see online. I will be on the hunt for them in stores! Thank you!

Thanks so much!!! I am definitely in the lead. I did have a bit of a bummer though Saturday and I wanted to mention it for you Quartzite owners. I was re-sealing my Quartzite and realized that it now has two HUGE etched spots. We had a BBQ last weekend and I had a dispenser of Beergaritas (tequila, beer, limeade, and lots of lime juice) and I guess someone had spilled some and it didn't get wiped up right away. I am so tempted now to try at evenly etch the rest of it. I'm probably the only one who will really notice it though. Hopefully I will win this contest so once I have that beautiful Arabesque backsplash, REALLY no one will notice the etchings!

Boy, I'm not sure how I got a double post there a half hour later, oh well. alex9179 - Good luck with your ceiling. I'm really happy with how our ceiling turned out. Compared to doing drywall, it was more expensive. But, it really ended up being a lot easier and quicker than what dry wall would have been. All those coats of mud standing on a ladder doesn't sound like fun at all. jeannie_kitchen - I do give a little smile every time I walk in there now. My DW was just commenting the other day that she really likes to just sort of hang out in the kitchen now.

Thanks so much everyone. It is not big or fancy like some kitchens on here but we were on a strict budget with this build and still managed to go over budget...sigh;) I should have said that this is a new build. We just moved in recently. We bought the lumber for those cabinets and stacked and air dried it ourselves to save money. When I tell people that, they look at me like I am crazy ;) We then took it to a solar kiln to finish it up. We saved quite a bit of money doing it that way, but it took patience and time. localeater, The cabinets were quite the experience;) Do a search of my name and you will see why. lol We had the cabinets custom built. They are natural with only poly, no stain. At first I was dissapointed because they were not what I expected, but all in all I am happy now. The floors are white oak with only poly also. sbp59 the granite is soft giallo ornamental. Thanks!

Thank you for the nice comments!!! The countertop is Basalt Slate - Formice, the sink is a single 25" undermount sink which I'm just starting to get used to, the faucet is Moen and I love it. I'm looking for suggestions on paint color and the back splash will probably be subway tiles and would welcome any choices on color for them, Black, White, or possibly taracotta.

Wow. I didn't know Formica offered under mounted sinks. That is the main reason I didn't go with it. Either eay, great job! Now, start enjoying it :)

I love that counter! Formica really has come a long way since my first two kitchens. Looks wonderful so far! Looking forward to seeing what backsplash you chose.
