I have cellulars in my sunroom and they are a pale beige-taupe so they go with any color. I think white would be too harsh. As for the bamboo, I have those in other rooms and, rather than a liner which is visable outside, I put darkening shades set on the inside of the window and the bamboo set on the outer area so that I can adjust them to whatever conditions there are and no one really sees the darkening shades as I roll them all the way up when not in use. Let's see what others say.

Thanks yayagirl! I am going to do a neutral beige color for the room darkening cellulars in the bedrooms. I plan to do bamboo in the kitchen, breakfast nook, and dining room. What darkening shades did you use with the bamboo shades?

Something a little different than what you're talking about, but since you asked what we all have I had to share. I have Hunter Douglas Country Woods in white. I absolutely love them and would recommend them to anyone. They were not super cheap, but they rotate smoothly, they don't slam together when you close them, they close all the way (if you've ever had blinds that don't you know what I mean).
I love the way they look from both inside and out - highly recommended.

I think you can't go wrong with neutral colors for window treatments. Go neutral on the more expensive decor items like window treatments and get more daring with things you can easily afford to "change out" as your tastes change (things like paint, throw pillows, shower curtains, etc.). Personally, I like the house to look nice from the outside, but I do not feel compelled to buy the same window treatments for the whole house. I was recently shopping for natural shades and blinds and I DID look at the bamboo with liners. There are seven liner color options. They seemed like they would look nice from either side. I ended up going with Bali but went with a roller shade instead. I ordered their free swatches and got great help from the sales person at JC Penney. Bali has an "Ask The Expert" tool on their FB page too. I found that useful as well.

We just put Bali pleated shades in our new kitchen and they are great! We did light-filtering for the kitchen. We are planning to do room-darkening pleated shades for the bedrooms. We didn't want to do cellular because of the possibility of bugs (like those darn Asian ladybugs) getting into the cells.

I am also considering options for keeping the sun out of my large bow window. I currently have mini blinds and I want something else.

Thank you Prospect, for making the point about bugs getting into cellular shades! The possibility never occurred to me and I can see how it would be a real problem for me if I went with such shades. We have a serious problem here with "stink bugs" and they would LOVE those shades.

I was considering ordering cellular shades for my family room....but that's a good point about bugs getting into the shades. I asked my neigbor (who has cellular shades) if the bugs are a problem. She said she sees an occasional stink bug in them, but to dust them she uses the cold setting on a blow dryer. I never would have thought of that!

I just bought blind from smith & noble. I had been going back and fourth about what to put in my great room and really wanted the woven wood blinds-
The designer was REALLY helpful b/c she brought everything out as well as different liners (colors and types- privacy, light shielded etc) and held them up for me to see.

I'm sure most local blind stores would do that as well, but i didn't not get overwhelming help at HD or Lowe's when I went and the local shops charged a fortune just to walk in my door. I haven't had them installed yet so no pictures, but wheN i ordered them they had a sale buy 3 get 1 free. I think I saw the other day they have buy 3 get "encouraged" me to ask her if there were any promotions going on and we found the one that would save me the most. Not cheap but for the help she offered it was worth it to me. They are based out of CA but I live in MA so they have local designers who come out to help all over th country. I believe the in-home consultation is free- regardless of if you purchase or not..

I think I am going to go with Levolor. Room darkening, inside mount cellulars in the bedrooms. Classic cellulars , inside mount in less visible areas such as laundry room, garage. Woven shades with liner in kitchen/great room (outside mount so I can mount them slightly higher to avoid obstructing any views).

Just not sure what to do in the master bath...
