Gizmonike, Are those electrical outlets above the garbage pullout? How did you modify the upper drawer so that it would accommodate the outlets and so that the drawer front would slide back and then over the outlets like that? Fantastic idea. I also had the idea of putting a shredder on the garbage container in the back of the pullout cabinet so that I could use it for paper to be recycled, which would necessitate an outlet inside the trash cabinet as well. Is there room inside the cabinet to accommodate that?

Hi! I'm actually considering the hardware you show (is it Hickory/Belwith Keeler?). My KD suggests knobs on upper doors & pulls on lower since pulls sometime get caught on pants pockets. I can confirm this since we currently have a mix -- I changed hardware when we 1st moved-in & lower drawers still all have knobs. If you really don't want to move away from knobs on the lower doors & drawers, you might consider not putting anything on the false front panels (see Susie's picture -- she doesn't have anything on false front at sink). Put knob on drawer & pull on trash -- you definitely want a pull on the trash, we changed my Mom's out from a knob years ago, it is too small an area to easily pull the trash drawer out. Also use the size pull that is comfortable for your hand. My cabinet designer says you'll get the same force from both size pulls. Good luck.

LWO - I'm reading into your statement, but are you saying that Grohe is a crappy quality faucet? Correct me if I'm wrong. We've had a Grohe LadyLux Plus faucet for years without any problems. It doesn't have to be reset from spray when you turn it off. We love it. When we go to my sil's new house, I can see that that is one place she skimped. Her faucet is a piece of crap. Our Grohe has held up with heavy use and when we remodel we will use the same faucet and add another Grohe to our prep sink. However, if I loved the Kohler Karbon as much as you seem to, I'd try to swing that one if at all possible. I think it's a really cool faucet but I just couldn't justify the cost for *me.* Oh, and I wouldn't go with the cheap screw-on spray attachment.

"...do you think I should put the sink across from the fridge?" I wouldn't because you'd lose counter space directly across from the fridge and pantry. That's where I set groceries down to put them away and where I set items I've just taken out of the fridge and pantry. Plus that aisle is less generous because of the fridge so you could be doing more butt bumping when you're at the sink and someone wants something from the fridge. And yes, definitely consider a single bowl sink for your clean-up sink. I went from a double bowl to a single bowl and I love it! I'd never go back to a double bowl again. I have a very large sheet pan soaking in my sink right now (roasted veggies for dinner last night). It would never have fit inside one side of my double bowl so I'd have to soak it on the counter. Since you prep at your island, it makes sense to have your trash at the island, too, unless that means that you're giving up much needed cabinet space in your island. If you got a single bowl with an offset drain for your clean-up sink, you'd have more than enough room for a larger trash bin under your clean-up sink. Something to consider: put your trash on the left and your sink on the right. That moves your sink away from the edge and moves the trash closer to the clean-up sink. You'd still have quite a bit of room to prep at your island, plus someone could prep on the short end, too. I needed 4 bins: trash, glass recycling, mixed recycling and returnables. My trash and glass recycling is under my sink and my mixed recycling and returnables are in a pull-out in my island across from my sink (my sink is diagonally across the aisle to the right). I prep between sink and cook top (to the right of my island) and at the island. These trash pull-outs are convenient to prep in both locations. Hope the above makes sense.
