Would an oval dining table work in here?

I hope you guys aren't so sick of me yet, but hopefully this is a quick question.

Do you think I can get away with having an oval table in here? It's a typical oval table with turned leg. I am using Parson chairs with linen slipcovers but the host chairs would be Chippendale chairs with arms.

I think an oval table would be great, would add some curves to the room and a different shape than the rectangles. Absolutely yes.

I definitely think an oval table would work for you. It's nice to have some curves to break up the straight lines. We recently got an oval table for the first time, and I love how it softens our space. Now that I know it works, I try to incorporate different shapes, as well as colors and textures, to add visual interest.

You certainly have a beautiful home. I've read both your posts because I, too, have a brick wall which dominates the room. With hardwood floors the acoustics are terrible. I put a large medium blue area rug in the room (thick nubs of felted wool shag) which does a good job of toning down the brick. I'm considering a large piece of oversized artwork by Judy Paul for the center of the wall, with smaller pieces on the sides. BTW, I've seen this artwork on Overstock, but not in person yet. I like "City Bird" and "Meander II". I don't recommend a mantle. I put one up but it doesn't go with the style of the room. It also invites clutter and dusting - two things I hate! I think an oval pedestal table with white marble or laminate (Eero Saarinen) would look great in your space and not look too busy or be lost against the brick. If you buy the Herman Miller table, they usually have a 15% discount sometime in May. I'm loving your pictures! Please post more as you redecorate your room.

Thank you! Now I'm wondering if this space in the living roomwould be a better space for one. I think I could go a little bigger. (If money was no object, I'd put two womb chairs with a saarinen marble side table and one finn juhl one collection credenza in the hallway...) what do you think? A bench is not good with an oval table. Post your space. Note that anything from RH with a rustic top will be a hot and quick mess in short order. A tulip base and top is not "trendy", they are iconic. And they come in many iterations to include easy care tops. Look on Room and Board. Quartz top options exist, 78 inches below

If you are only going to ever have one person sitting in the middle of the bench, the problem is getting in. Either you have to slide in from the end, which doesn't work if the bench has arms; or you have to scoot the bench out and in like you would a chair, which is awkward because it is a much larger piece of furniture than a chair; or you get a backless bench and get in by stepping over it, which doesn't sound like the look you are going for. If you hope to seat multiple people on the bench, pairing it with an oval table may cause the additional problem that the people on the ends of the bench can't get close enough to the table because of the curvature of the table. Also, with more than one person, if the bench needs to be scooted out for entry and exit, then everyone on the bench needs to scoot in or out (in a coordinated way) any time one person wants to get in or out. I understand the appeal of the look, but please think about the logistics before you commit.

Yes definitely, I love round tables, and as others have said round will balance all the rectangles you have in the room.

I'm on board.

The fabric has straight lines, the back chair legs have a graceful curve...oval would be nice.

I think an oval table would definitely work in your space. Have you given up the idea of a farm table and do you have a specific table in mind?

thank you for your input ladies ... I have these chairs which I love and I've been trying to find a table to go with them. My friend is giving me this table which I think may work the only problem is that it's oval. I will test drive it and get your opinion, after Thanksgiving (since all my in-laws are in town now).

Kjmama: what's your address LOL ;-D

Juddgirl2: I still want a farm house table, but I'm hoping this would work so I can get my chairs out of the garage :-D If I find a better table later, I will switch.
