You certainly have a beautiful home. I've read both your posts because I, too, have a brick wall which dominates the room. With hardwood floors the acoustics are terrible. I put a large medium blue area rug in the room (thick nubs of felted wool shag) which does a good job of toning down the brick. I'm considering a large piece of oversized artwork by Judy Paul for the center of the wall, with smaller pieces on the sides. BTW, I've seen this artwork on Overstock, but not in person yet. I like "City Bird" and "Meander II". I don't recommend a mantle. I put one up but it doesn't go with the style of the room. It also invites clutter and dusting - two things I hate! I think an oval pedestal table with white marble or laminate (Eero Saarinen) would look great in your space and not look too busy or be lost against the brick. If you buy the Herman Miller table, they usually have a 15% discount sometime in May. I'm loving your pictures! Please post more as you redecorate your room.

I think that a dining table should have comfortable chairs. Benches are the worst! No back support, you are sharing with other people so you can't pull the chair to your comfortable distance from the table. PLEASE consider a set with comfortable chairs, or purchase them separately. Many furniture stores sell them chairs separate from the table, find a table you like and then find chairs that go with it. Make sure there is room for the chairs under the table if the table has a drop underneath. Dining should be a comfortable experience, not a torture chamber, even if it is just for the kids! I am with Kswl on every point, including the black for the color.

Oh errant, finding cloths is a MAJOR challenge! And my DD's dining room table is the same width! She inherited my late MIL's cloth (I got the table, she got the cloth?), so that's one that fits. I normally do not have any leaves in mine and that makes it almost square - 58 x 56. I finally found a 90" square Irish linen damask cloth on eBay and that's great for when there are only 5 of us - a bit tight but doable. At Christmas when there are 6, I need to put one leaf in the table (it has FIVE leaves, all about 30" wide EACH!! and a specially made rack to hold them in the hall closet). I finally found a wide, long cloth on eBay and it was sold to me at a significant price as "flawless". After much argument with the seller, she agreed to drop-ship the cloth to the laundry in Wisconsin which still hand does cloths like these and puts them on rollers. When it arrived (before they touched it other to unpack it and inspect it), it had a dime-size hole and two thin spots. The seller said the laundry did it (they had not yet laundered it!) and eBay and PayPal sided with her as they will not guarantee things that are shipped to a 3rd party. I'm a major eBay buyer - first time I had heard of that! Fortunately this wonderful place (The Laundry at Linens Ltd) does superb hand mending and did a gorgeous job. They felt so badly for me, they did not charge me for the mending, just the laundering and shipping. When these two are gone, I'm out of luck and back to placemats (and of course, the leaves don't match the finish on the table due to light and age). When I was in Belfast several years ago, I went to Ferguson's and took with me a napkin from the lovely cloth my mother bought me 50 years ago for my linen trousseau, and tried to special order a cloth for this table. First of all, they no longer made that grade of damask - nicer than "double damask", and they no longer have the looms to make cloths that wide. It's a major problem for stately homes in the UK - even for Buckingham Palace - as the antique cloths are wearing out after 100 yrs of use and mending. But Ferguson's said making new looms would be cost prohibitive and the market for such a slim one. End of an era...

the dining space with the curved windows wall cries out for a large round table a rectangular table will not look good as it clashes with the curvature of thr windows im not s fsn of built in bench seating at a table as it limits movement of the persons in the center Id go for white or cream wood to lighten up the space as the kitchen cabinets offer enough darker wood to the area or a black table will offer a dramatic look def do not go with a wood tone same as cabinets that will be too matchy matchy! rattan chair will look lovely with any table if you go with rattan chairs, get a good wuality as cheap ones dont hold up
