Can you post an updated photo of the dining area? How many people share your home with you? What are the dimensions of the nook?

I think another picture or two would be helpful. I can't tell how the dining room relates to the kitchen as far as sightlines. Are you going to be changing the light fixture and window treatments in there?

Light fixture has been replaced (goodbye to my Brady Bunch fixture!) and I honestly have not even thought about window treatments yet, but most likely they will. We are out in the woods at the top of a hill, so I like an unobstructed view. I will post more pics tomorrow (out of town today).

I love the blinds in the first picture. They would
look great and can be fully drawn up during the day. The nook is octagonal shaped so not sure about built in benches. I have been toying with the idea of a round table, but would need to have the ability to expand it when all the kids join us for dinner.

Make the chairs the star of the kitchen...a simple black, extendable table will work fine with your scheme.

A larger chandelier in the space is a must.

Here are updated pictures of my kitchen. The dining space is approximately 11 ft by 11 feet, not counting the entrance into the kitchen. It is octagonal shaped and part of the kitchen, not a separate room. Painting has not been done but it will be Sherwin Williams Softened Green. I have not picked out window coverings or area rug yet bit am thinking simple blinds that can be pulled up for an unobstructed view. The folding table you see is 48 in square. I need help

So you do not think I need to stick with black walnut? I have priced a few black walnut tables and they are very expensive. But I do want solid wood, not veneer, so willing to pay a bit more.

I'd do a round black pedestal table in that space, either with or without a built in banquette in the bay window. Hard to tell the dimensions, but probably a 48" round would be best so you have room for four chairs.

This website sells solid wood tables and option to choose wood species and stain, and option to add leaf. I personally would prefer to shop in person for furniture, but if the options around you are limited, this is an option. I definitely prefer round for your space

Only suggesting because you specified solid wood - it's definitely solid wood, and it's lasted/taken a lot of abuse (4 different moves + daily life with an active toddler) and still looks great. I have the 60" which comfortably seats 6 adults, but they also offer a larger size to accommodate up to 8 people. Is this your only dining space, or is there a separate formal dining room? Would you be open to an area rug under the table? It would definitely help define the space.

you can still do the bench w/those windows. they would be great for kids. you could have a long table and just use extra chairs (and a leaf) when entertaining.

Can you see other rooms from the dining area? Is this your only eating area?

Thank you. Our home is in the woods so we have tried to maintain a semi-rustic, natural look. Our artwork is mostly wildlife or nature scenes. I have an actual moose head in my living room, as well as a bear. (Sorry if this offends anyone. We hunt for meat.) Earthy colors.

I need a table that seats 6-8, with the ability to expand it when all our kids/families are here. Of course the size of the room limits how much. Also have a breakfast bar/pass through that should accommodate 4 (it is 101 inches long)

Another idea is a Mission style table:

There are companies (many are Amish owned) who can make these custom for you. The stain you like, size, everything. The classic, rustic, simple lines of it would fit well with your decor.

It would look great and interesting to mix chairs that aren’t exactly matching in style with these. Give you a more collected-over-time feel.

measure your spot for the table/chairs. Look online at some tables you like. get the dimensions.

take painters tape and mark out some table measurements so you'll get an idea of how it would look in your space.

I found this great solid wood oval table. It’s on sale, comes in a few stain colors (provide samples) and comes in two sizes. I think it could be perfect.

I was thinking that bench seating will reduce the number of chairs needed, so will off set some of the bench‘s cost. Being so close to window/view and kids loving benches (use a wipeable fabric if they are young) might be an ideal solution. Add Roman blinds, a new chandelier that doesn’t obstruct sightlines, black chairs (can always have pads made with fabric used on bench for added comfort).

The black chairs are interesting.....a nice contrast to the natural wood tones. So to clarify what I am hearing, a walnut table is NOT a must have? Mixing wood species is acceptable? I assume I would look for a color/tone similar to the cabinets?

These tables also come in round, up to 54 inches,. which is 4 feet 6 inches in diameter. Either just simple round, or optional with extension, more guests over the holidays. Dark charcoal stain, or light ash, or maple, cherry or walnut. Expensive imo, but maybe if you like the simple, light looking Shaker style.

Maybe you'd be better off with just a round table bigger than this. Maybe 5 to 6 feet diameter.?

I am avoiding table legs, prefer a simple pedestal instead. Easier to move around the table in the octagonal space. I am considering this Amish built table in maple with a special walnut stain (second pic is the stain), with a black base. And black chairs with the special walnut stained seats.
