Sophies choice dead in a few hours?
Comments (8)The white mold on the top of the mix is normal, especially if the mix is kept too wet. If you saw a brown constricted area at the stem where it meets the mix level than I'd be willing to consider damping off. But it looks to me as though that one plant died b'c it was too wet. Just my opinion. IN your 6a area the plants should be hardened off and ready to go about mid-May or so and your other plants look very very small right now and need to be at least in the maybe 4-6 inch range to set out. If that was the only Sophie's Choice plant you had I don't see anything wrong with sowing some new seed b'c even if you don't get it out until mid-June you should still have time to mature fruits b'c it is an early season variety although it will produce throughout the summer. The three genera of Fungi that can cause damping off are not found in great abundance in artificial mix, which brings me to the next question. You use the word soil when describing what you transferred that plant to. Was that real soil or artificial mix? At this point I'm not willing to say the problem is damping off and the white mold is not the problem, just scrape it off. And to be honest I've never been convinced, from the feedback that I've seen that chamomile tea or cinnamon or whatever do anything significant to help prevent damping off. And that's b'c folksjust use it without knowing if there are indeed any damping off fungi in the artificial mix or whatever thye're using for seed sowing. You have to do controlled studies using the same mix, same seeds, same everything except treating one set of seeds and not the other. Just curious, but why the Baking Soda? Comments (45)I'd definitely agree about glass giving your space a more modern direction. I'm thinking black glass would also be very 'hard' visually -- another surface with a 'strong, masculine' bent. Is that something you want? What direction DO you want to go in? (If it were me, I'd tip just a bit back to the 'softer and more feminine side' with a ceramic tile with a bit of a 'cushion' shape (handmade) and a color that's rich but not too dark. I'm thinking a simple 4x4 on a diagonal layout with a frame treatment over the range... While I love the metal decos, I think they may add too much 'clutter' to an element that needs to be more 'background'. You've also got a lot of outlets in your splash -- so there will already be things there -- things you probably don't want to draw the eye to......See MorePlease, help with faucet choice! Lost!
Comments (15)ok, so it looks like you want a pull out/down sprayer. i don't like #1 because of the mounting plate. i don't like #3 because it has a dated 80's look. and i do think (without seeing the rest of your kitchen) that #2 looks too modern. i do very much like the fairfax and lynn in nm's faucet that were linked above. i think that by keeping the profile slim, and staying with just one hole in your counter, the height tends to be less overwhelming. you should look for a one-hole single lever pull down that suits your style. i think you'd do well with either of the two examples that the others linked....See MoreFaucet help needed....pics included!
Comments (29)sclee, I wondered if the backward curve of the Grohe facilitates the splashing, but the Simplice doesn't seem to curve that way. However, I have had a gooseneck (not pulldown so the head is much smaller) for 15 years and never had an issue with splashing, so I don't think it's a given. I think the Leland is a good choice for what you describe as wanting. It has a 3-holed black plastic plate that must go under the counter, but as far as I can tell (still in the box), there is no matching BN base plate. About HD or Lowe's, I had heard (don't know if it's true) that there is a difference between the quality of products there and the ones you would get through distributors like faucetdirect, etc. I don't want to repeat baseless stories, so I'd check into it to be sure. However, I've had a good experience with two online companies, HomePerfect (for Blanco Silgranit sinks; they didn't have the Leland in the BN finish available), and DesignerPlumbingOutlet for the faucets. Both were delivered very quickly, no shipping because of the total of my order, and I was able to track them while they were being shipped. I can't tell you about the quality because they are not installed yet (this week!), but maybe others can give hints about good places to order from, or experience with purchasing from big box stores....See Morela_koala
