Teeny Tiny (but New!) Kitchen

I've finally taken pictures of my new kitchen. It is very tiny (56 sf to be exact), so every inch counted. It was a complete gut job...there was zero, zilch, nada worth saving from the 1982 mess that was there. I live in a small urban condo (think NYC minus the chic) and between the condo rules (work only permitted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday -Friday) and a contractor with a sense of time all his own, it was quite a project. I went with small in size but good performing appliances. I love the 24" Bertazzoni gas stove and the 24" Fagor refrigerator. I hope this helps someone the way other posts helped me. Not exactly sure how to post a link to the Photobucket album, but here we go!

Looks beautiful ... you must be thrilled! Love your cabinets, countertops, flooring and the cheery yellow walls. What kind of flooring is that?

You can rotate those photos in Photobucket. Just click Edit and then Rotate and Save. My DH was looking at me funny because I was turning my laptop on its side to view your photos! ;)

Excellent! The clean lines make it look bigger than it probably is. Love the wall color.

I second the wow! But I couldn't see what she did in the two corners... could she access the space there, either side of the oven? I looked and looked, but couldn't see if she had piano hinged corner cupboards on the bottom. Perahps they open out the back into another room? And someone on the website asked about her stepladder, but I couldn't find it either. Does it go into more detail in the magazine itself? I loved the mirrored backsplashes too, but I'm glad it don't have to clean them LOL.

Thank you for all the kind words!!! Yes cawaps it is Tan Brown, we really where tight with the money and it was the one we liked in the "cheapest" category, lol! We did do the 2 cm, but the whole kitchen, for the stone and the install was $1550. Couldn't beat it and the granite is really pretty! The little guy in the picture, who should be naping right now but isn't, blows you all a kiss (cause he just learned how to do this and does it all day! lol!) Thanks again!

Jillius, I made the Saturday afternoon "deadline" he wanted. I didn't think I would. But, thanks to you and everyone's incredibly generous help, WE did it! I'm thrilled with the plan! I read through the thread again just now. It is completely blowing my mind to see how the design evolved and changed over the course of a week into what we have now. Everyone played an important part with all their input. I will be forever grateful to all of you. It might take a few years to have it all up and running, but I will keep you all posted on the progress. I will start a new thread whenever he gets the walls and roof on. Laughable, I'm am dead serious, just last night my husband said, "You are going to have to start calling me 'Mr. Rebunky' on your GW." Hysterical you said that. Imgch, thanks. I love your reveal! Your kitchen is beautiful! You did a great job picking all the materials and appliances. It looks much bigger than it is and I'm sure you are enjoying it! I lived in NYC for many years with a tiny kitchen, so I have a sentimental fondness for small kitchens!

I really like how the Bertazzoni stove is practically integrated with the cabinetry. I will have to keep that range in mind.

What a great galley!! I like how you did the artwork above the range. Might as well admire a nice view while you're cooking, and the glass will be a cinch to wipe off. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your bright kitchen!

Thank you all for your wonderful responses. I really do love it. The flooring is 12 x 12 black and white granite tiles. A breeze to clean. I didn't do a backsplash because my kitchen backs onto a neighbor's kitchen and if something were to go wrong with the plumbing (not unheard of in my building), I rather be replacing dry wall than tile. The wall color is RL Chesapeake Sunset, and I haven't quite decided whether or not it is too bright. Some days (most) I love it, but there are others when I do the "what were you thinking?!?!?!!" routine. That's the only thing I am second guessing, and that will be an easy fix when the time comes. Thank you, again!

I think the wall color is great! It's a lovely kitchen! has all of the necessities - and more. and all new, clean and sleek! must be a real joy to cook in it.

have you had any problems with the pic over the stove? had to clean it yet? I thought about hanging a pic w/ glass for my stove BS but thought maybe it wouldn't be safe enough...

desertsteph: I haven't had any problems with the picture over the stove, and I've been cooking every day. It is very easy to clean. I do have a fan above the stove which sucks up the steam. I think when I use the back burners heavily, I will just remove the picture. I am also so happy to have a trash pull out!

Nice job, very cheery and efficient. Please tell about using the 24" range. It looks fabulous in the space but does it feel cramped? How about the oven -- enough room to bake whatever you're used to baking?

Maybe I should have waited to ask about baking until after this east coast heat wave subsides. :)

The oven is smaller than what I was used to and some of my baking items (large cookie sheet and a lasagne pan which held enough lasagne to feed my neighborhood) are too wide/deep to fit. So I've downsized on those items. But I'm cooking for 1 most of the time, and up to 4 tops, so I'm fine with it. It does hold my turkey pan. I've roasted chicken already and had no problem cooking an entire chicken. The trouble would come with Thanksgiving side dishes, but my place is too small for the Thanksgiving gathering anyway, so that won't be an issue. I can roast a whole chicken and get one side dish in, but I have to use the right casserole. I live in a small space, so I'm used to working these things out. Hope this helps.

Didn't realize the cats would make an appearances as well. They're gone now. Funny thing is: they are both afraid of the new kitchen. It may be the black floor. They sit there at the threshhold staring in but won't enter, yet. I have carried them in and they like that just fine for now.
