Window treatments and lighting advice
Comments (12)Thanks! I too was leaning towards either roman shades, balloon shades, or a valance with a white roller shade behind to pull down for privacy. Unfortunately I do not have any sewing skills whatsoever, so I've sent for a swatch from country curtains of a valance that happens to have a leafy print on a white background, but it has tie up bands with some stripes that I have to see in person to see if they match the bedding. I could then put white roller shades behind the valances to pull down at night. What do you think? And regarding the lighting, there's wiring already in place for a hanging something or other. It would be for ambience only. So a definite no on the hanging light? We had a fan there originally but I didn't want another fan. I do like the light from lampsplus but I would only put one near the one night stand. The lamps on the bureau will not be staying, but I do have a wooden candlestick lamp that needs a shade that I will probably place on one end of the bureau. I will try to take more pics tonight of the wall of the nightstand and headboard....See MoreHelp this single guy out...midcentury beachhouse TKO
Comments (48)@halocrime: Your kitchen looks so cool! Love the backsplash and wall color you chose! @amyrsq: I actually ordered the window because I couldn't wait :P I ended up adding about 700SF to my travertine order so I had to save $$ somewhere :) @jrueter: Well I went to IKEA this weekend and 2 things struck me: Solar is being discontinued and overall their cabinets are too flimsy for the price. I was quote at $3K for IKEA and essentially $4200 for Shenandoah/American Woodmark. The difference to me in quality is worth 2-3X the cost. I just don't think I can stomach IKEA cabinets in my kitchen (not trying to offend anyone!). I think I'm going to put my color either into the countertops or the backsplash, or both. @monkeymo: You're probably right actually. I'm willing to bet Schuler really handpicked the wood for their display doors since they want the most consistency. I'll probably stay away from the all natural look. @sochi: Exactly, I was thinking something along the lines of iridescent blue/green accent tiles in the backsplash. Not all glass but trav/glass mix possibly....See MoreExterior Advice Desperately Needed
Comments (34)Would like to post an update to my original plea for advice on painting the exterior of my home. It’s been 2 months and the contractors have finished all of the projects. I have to admit, I am so pleased with the outcome and I sincerely appreciate those that took a moment to share opinions and suggestions. We went with SW Shoji white for the brick, SW Anew Gray for the soffit and fascia, and decided to accent the gutters and downspouts with SW Iron Ore. What a difference......See MoreCould this bed work for a single guy?
Comments (87)oh great. then it's perfect for this paint. Super easy. I like to give mine a quick cleaning and fine sanding. run your hand over it after a quick sand with 220 grit. any bumps or rough spots? if no, wipe it down well. chalk paint is super easy. no priming. feel free to add a little water if the paint feels too thick. give it one coat, let dry. find sand with 220 just to take down the roughness of the paint. 2nd coat (you'll want to add a bit of water to the paint on the 2nd coat). let dry, fine sand again until smooth. buff with clear wax like you would a car. apply a very light coat of wax, let it dry a bit and buff w/cotton rag until it shines. done. you could also leave it as is (but the wax will really bring out the color) coat w/tung oil, beeswax or even a poly. https://www.anniesloan.com/techniques (you don't need her wax. too much. just get the clear Briwax or Citrus wax from home depot or lowes)...See Moreannzgw
