Has anyone bought the Horchow Nala rug?

Has anyone tried to purchase a rug from Horchow? They have terrible customer service reviews, but I really want this rug. I hope someone can report a positive experience buying a rug from them, especially the Nala rug (9x12). Anybody?

I purchased a 9' x 12' Valenncierre rug from Horchow five years ago. Other than the fact that it was delivered three weeks early which was awkward because I was out of town, I had no problems. The rug is great quality and has never shed at all.

I posted a recent review here called Horchow - never again and updated tonight last years reviews from epinion.

If they say they are shipping now you may be OK. I have one rug I followed when they started showing it in August for a September shipping and now it says Feb '12 with no notice of backorder in between. If you are aware of the risks (i.e. color and availability) then go with the positive reviews. Make a phone call first to them and see if they can tell you the real shipping date.

Oh Lily, I'm pulling my hair out over my most recent on-line experience. First let me say, I've ordered many a rug on-line with great success, but my last order was my worse experience, and it was ordered from a most renown, reputable and upscale-ish home decor company. The rug arrived and I snipped open one end. What do I find? A tag with a completely different size other than the one I ordered. I called the company and they advise they had to call the distributer to verify if the correct size was pulled and did I want to reorder the correct size...huh? I was adamant that I was shipped the wrong size and could email a picture with the manufacturer's tag with size attached to the rug. The rep advised I had to "wait". Well, days later I was getting mighty worried and called customer service again. This second rep was more understanding and ordered the rug to be picked up. It's been a week and I still haven't received credit. Aside from all that, the quality of the rug was unbelievably inferior for what I would believe this company to offer. The pile was so sparse and short I couldn't believe my eyes. I guess I was fortunate the wrong size was delivered; otherwise I'd have the responsibility of shipping it back. If at all possible, trying finding it local first so as to first hand inspect color and quality.

When I see something like that, I wonder what the buyers are thinking, the ones who decide what goes in the horchow catalogue; it's a high end catalogue for sure, but logic has to prevail. I've bought amazing wreaths from horchow years ago and didn't bat an eye at the price because it was worth it but the bamboo in acrylic water is a joke.

We swapped the rugs, Gold went to the living room and my DH is happy. He likes it better there and so do I. The color looks less orangey. And the size is good for that room. The silver rug looks 'OK' in the DR but is really a bit too blue for the DR and the fabric I've had for windows. It will be perfect upstairs in my snore room however when I get to that project so both are keepers and will work fine as place holders. Busybee3 - I would keep the table at the round 54" as I only do larger 10+ sit downs a few times a year. I guess I really think of the DR divided into two sections a 6 X 16 hallway and a 10 X 16; as that side is where the table lives, and the light fixture is placed accordingly. I do not want to center the table to the room as that would be trickly for walking to the kitchen. What I consider the hall is really part of the room and will have the buffet placed there. The other walls will have a china cab and server. For now I will have the silver rug placed where the large gold rug is in the first picture, but I will try with out a runner for awhile. Not ideal but will get us by to move in - While I keep my eyes peeled for the perfect rug.

Be warned about $$$$ rug samples.... 1) they are non refundable 2)They offer a program where you can order samples and later have the cost of those credited to your order. They don't state this on the website but they only credit ONE SAMPLE and it must be the EXACT same color/product as the sample you ordered. I made the mistake of purchasing several expensive samples in order to compare the colorways, only to find out they'd only comp one. 3) Getting the credit for it is not easy, you have to call and get the supervispr to approve it. Perhaps I am spoiled, I am a trade customer and typically companies send free samples. These are $50 each! Would rather deal with the carpet manufacturer directly than through a third party such as "rugs direct".

Thanks for the replies. I phoned Horchow and they couldn't tell me anything other than what was posted on the website which is that the rug is "expected to ship" 9 or 10 weeks after you order it. The date changes automatically on the website everyday to keep it 9-10 weeks from whenever you order it. They would tell me nothing else. Not good enough. Then the sale ended. So I didn't order it. They couldn't even tell me what country it was shipping from. Astonishing lack of information from people who want to take over $6000 from you. Oh well.

Remember that Horchow does not mfg. rugs. The rug mfg. is the one not meeting ship dates and not giving Horchow good information. BUT, the Horchow buyers should be on the butts of the rug mfg. to get firm dates. I would call and ask to speak to the buyer, or find out who makes the rug and call them directly.
I find it sooooo amazing w/our ecomony being bad, people supposedly not buying as much, yet the mfg's continue to give crap delivery dates or products that aren't worth the money they are charging...

The rug is made in Pakistan. They won't tell me anything else. It's like they don't really care whether they sell the rugs or not!

I would go to your local and trustworhty oriental rug dealer. Ask around to find the right shop. Show them a photo of the rug you want. They should be able to find you something similar or even the same rug. These shops will also bring rugs to your house to try out.

I agree with chispa! Local shops will deliver and let you try out rugs. AND you can almost always get the rug for 50-60% off the listed price.
