Has Anyone Bought a Rug in Turkey?
Comments (11)If you've done your research, you should be okay. Know what you will pay and what is too much for your budget. Be sure to examine the rug, turning it over to look at the knots, etc. Be prepared to bargain. Then bargain some more. It is expected, and no one really expects you to pay the price that is first stated. Bargaining can go on for a while, with the shop owner offering you cups of tea or even something to eat. If you can't get the price down to what you want for one rug, sometimes asking for a second, smaller (or in other ways less expensive) rug to be thrown in can seal the deal. If you look non-Turkish, people will walk up to you on the street and invite to you their brother/father/cousin's rug store. You can go or not as you choose. If you stop by a store and spend more than a minute or two looking, someone may come out and press you to enter. This is very normal if you look like a tourist. You can just smile, shake your head, and walk away if you are not interested. Look all you want. Ask prices. But once you start to bargain in earnest, there will be more of an expectation that you will buy something. But it doesn't have to be what you started bargaining for. Not to scare you or anything--just be sure that you really want something before you get very involved in negotiating the price. There are plenty of wool rugs available. You need only buy silk if you want to. (My brother's wife is Turkish and they have lived there for the past 16 years. Bargaining is a sport and an art form there. )...See MoreHas anyone bought the Horchow Nala rug?
Comments (7)Thanks for the replies. I phoned Horchow and they couldn't tell me anything other than what was posted on the website which is that the rug is "expected to ship" 9 or 10 weeks after you order it. The date changes automatically on the website everyday to keep it 9-10 weeks from whenever you order it. They would tell me nothing else. Not good enough. Then the sale ended. So I didn't order it. They couldn't even tell me what country it was shipping from. Astonishing lack of information from people who want to take over $6000 from you. Oh well....See MoreArea rug from Rugs Direct
Comments (2)I have bought every rug in my home from Rugs Direct except one and we have all hardwood, no carpet at all, so that is a lot of rugs! I have been totally thrilled with *almost every rug and they have EXCEPTIONAL customer service. If you call to order, ask for Scott Garthwaite and tell him that Laura recommended him. :) I am lucky because I live less than an hour from their Winchester, VA showroom and the rugs that have not worked for me I have been able to return myself and so have avoided paying return shipping. However, their policy is a 30 day return, no questions asked so this does give you time to try the rug out in your room and then return it if the total look it is not what you had hoped for. Good Luck, I hope it works out for you!...See MoreHas Anyone Bought Serenity Brown Granite from Lowe's?
Comments (9)Clt3, that is GORGEOUS! I love how pearly and iridescent it looks. Honestly I am surprised at the iridescent quality with the leathered finish but wow, it's beautiful. And your island and backsplash cilor happens to be very close to my favorite color. I want to save this for backsplash idea!. Hubs is a furniture guy, so painted cabinets are out. We've compromised on a very translucent stain, most likely on Cherry. But as I sais, we are just getting started. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous kitchen!...See MoreRelated Professionals
