bedroom bay/window seat needs what?

I am searching for suggestions on how to cover windows in guest bedroom. One is the bay with window seat the other is standard 36x52 (I think) and the bed has to be positioned in front of it because every wall has a door opening. I think I want blinds, small 1 inch white blinds, for versatility/ can be raised and tilted for light ect. plus dog perches on the window seat and scans the neighborhood from there. and that is what is in the other window facing the street. I'd like to add some softness though too. I'm thinking both windows need treatment that is short not long..yes? please give me suggestions, and pictures if you have one. I cant post...don't know how! Thanks.

I've struggled with what to do with my front (street-side) windows, one of them being a guest room and the other my office, for 12 years now. I've gone through numerous treatments including drapes, semi-sheers, wood blinds, and most recently, a bamboo shade. The problem has always been achieving a balance between aesthetics, privacy, and light-preferably all at the same time. Anyway, I finally bit the bullet and ordered shutters with a divider strip for the guest room. It's pricey but, compared to replacing the treatment every couple of years, well worth it.

Due to the height of the window (about 24" off the ground and 52" tall) I can open the upper sections to allow light in while keeping the lower sections closed for privacy. Of course, they look great and add to the value of the house too.

I plan to order shutters for my office too but since the bamboo shades are only a year old, I need to ease into it with DH.

thanks Yadax 3. Maybe what I'm asking for are suggestions for fabric treatment to layer over the blinds which wont appear too heavy as the room is only about 10x11 and the bed will be positioned between the too windows. Hopefully I'll get additional responses and pictures are wonderful. Maybe Les will come to my rescue?

By cafe curtains, do you mean the tiered set? I'm just not sure what that means? I always think of kitchen curtains! How would I mount a curtain rod from the ceiling? I once had regular curtain rods before I put in the seat, but with the roller shades, there is no place to put the rod hooks. I don't want to block off the windows as in the first photos-I mostly need to be able to block the extreme sunlight and provide some evening privacy if needed.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I am so glad I found this forum--this is exactly what I was looking for. Sometimes you need fresh eyes. I can see that this site could be a bit addictive! So I didn't think I liked shorter length curtains either, but I'm reconsidering that. Thanks for the helpful photo & input, roarah. I never would have thought about the difference between sill-length and a bit lower, but I see your point. I don't really want Roman shades, as I want to keep the blinds, and I'd like something to cover the sides of the blinds, but thank you for the suggestion. As for the panels to the floor, that was my first choice, but the radiator cover extends out so far that I'm not sure that will look right, even with holdbacks. I have printed out a couple of pics of the window above the radiator, and I'm going to sketch out your suggestions to see how they look. I'll let you know what I decide. Oh, and the bed: There is a floor vent between the bed & radiator cover, so we can't move the bed too much closer. Luckily the frame is on wheels, so it's easy to roll when making the bed. One more question: Normally I line draperies, but since I'm using burlap, I wonder if unlined might look more light-diffusing & charming. Thoughts? Thanks again!

What is currently up there are just temporary/paper shades 😇 We had honeycomb shades there before which were very similar but my son “mistreated” them and they would not go up and down. I was thinking of replacing the shades. So I thought honeycomb (even though he broke those before), roller shades, Roman shades, or maybe even wooden blinds. He does not want curtains and he does not want a single shade all the way across (even though I tend to think a single shade would look nice). Thank you!!

I saw fabric covered blinds at JC penney the other day.

I'm thinking of using those for my Bay windows as well (I have a window seat too.

I had a similar problem in one room where there are blinds. I wanted to soften them but leave plenty of room for our two cats to look outside. The male kitty in particular patrols that window like an MP! So I hung curtains to sill length, in cafe style, with clip rings. They open and close very easily (I use a curtain wand to do this to save my back). The curtain material is thin, so that it makes a thin stack when open, but at any rate it's the soft look that I wanted rather than thicker material. I also pull up the blinds during the time of day that Mr. Cat has to be there looking for birds, raccoons, deer, and other cats. It works and looks fine!
