SodaStream machine anyone?
Comments (6)We have one and use it daily. We like it less fizzy and add our own fresh juice. I like it with grapefruit fresh squeezed, think Fresca. Much cheaper than buying canned or bottled and no more cans in the recycling. Our local store has the cartridges and they last forever. I works best if you chill the filled bottles in the fridge first. We have three in constant rotation. We put a thick small rubber band around the necks when a couple are -fizzed- so we know which one to pull out. We don't like sugared sodas so works for us. Some friends kids visiting had a blast experimenting and making their own beverages. Use honey or maple syrup and experiment. Just found a second on at a yardsale for our vacation home....See MoreLooking for layout help, pretty please!
Comments (38)Thanks again everyone. Okay, thoughts: I'm pretty sure we don't want to try and put the fridge on the DR wall, even if we open up the rest of the wall. We get a lot of nice light through the DR windows, and I'm just really looking forward to having a long, unobstructed view across the space (to the point of probably skipping pendants over any island/peninsula that we end up with, to avoid cluttering up the sightlines). So, while those do solve the thorny fridge issue, I think they're out. Lisa's galley plan is intriguing, though I'd be worried about the DW-fridge conflict (and I'm not sure a DW-range conflict would be any better. Will try and mock it up. Sena01, thanks for those ideas and the great renderings. I'm of two minds about the fridge in that position. It solves the functional problems of the kitchen, but, but. When I stand in the space and envision it, it feels off to me, aesthetically. Usually when a kitchen has a U plus fridge wall, the fridge wall runs straight across rather than bulging out the way ours would. Still thinking about how much this would bother me, and whether dressing up the fridge enclosure like magsnj suggests would make it better. May_flowers, I'd love to get the back door out of the kitchen, but that's not really possible because of the way our lot is: the house is set into the side of a hill, and the approach to the house is on the kitchen/DR side, so to access a back door in the office room (which is actually a playroom right now) would mean walking all the way to the far side of the house. Also, this is a 3 bedroom house, with 2 up and 1 down, and if we put an exterior door into it, I think we'd compromise its bedroom-ness in terms of resale. (We have a 5 year plan: 5 more years in this house, then reevaluate as to whether we want to move or add on, moving being more likely I think.) Lavender, interesting ideas with moving the back door - might just work. Going to play with those and get back to you....See MoreLayout Advice - collective wisdom welcomed!
Comments (18)So, here are a few more pictures and iterations 1. A picture of the whole layout of the ground floorIgnore the bathroom placement - that's moving to the closet opposite the stairs. We are opening up the wall between the kitchen and the rest of the house, but we are leaving the wall between the TV room/dining room (two middle rooms) - just too costly for us to remove at this point with chimney in there, different height floors between rooms. So that's staying. here is option 1, I know this is a bit hard to read. Starting at top right - fridge, small cab, DW, sink, Tr, counter space, then around the corner stove and more cabinets. 39"*84" island has more cabinets & MW. Pantry opposite fridge (either using existing 27'' tall pantry cabinet we have, or a new skinnier one). I think this 'flow' works better and makes more sense...ice, water, stone, fire (love that!) - and has a lot more storage. And there is a lot more space for adequate clearance/paths. In this plan we'd do marble perimeter and wood island. My only worry and I don't know if it is sill is that I feel like I always see islands front on in a room rather than sideways like this. But I think I might be unfounded in that? I really like this plan better, thanks mamagoose for suggesting! Option 2: this is my original plan. I think it will look cool but not so functional. Also...this works if we put a big pantry in (which we were thinking we would do if we moved the other wall) - but now that we're not moving that wall, a big pantry would block the flow (It would have gone where the fridge is). So - I think I am saying goodbye to this one (my husband still prefers it though....need to persuade!) Would welcome any thoughts!! Thanks as always....See MoreAnyone have a soda stream.
Comments (9)I have mine for more than 12 years. i also bought 2 more cannisters so i don't run out frquently. I am not a water drinker, so the bubbles make it more palatable for me to get in my liquids. ive been exchanging my empties at BBB with coupons, but my closest BBB just closed, so now ill probably exchange at our nearby Harmons. it's great if you have a neighbor who can refill for a good price and hopefully convenience. i think it's a fine idea for your grand daughter. she can easilynreplace the cartridges by herself, as long as the family is ok with paying for exchanges....See Moreblubird
