Are you replacing the entryway trim? You usually can't stain paint grade trim. I think it would look ok to have painted base trim and stained windows and doors, but I personally like the look of all painted.

I have seen a few houses where the trim/windows/door frames are all painted and then they have beautiful solid wood stained doors.

Yes, she is replacing the entryway trim because it got damaged when they installed her IKEA cabinets this summer.

IKEA cabs gives her a more modern look which is why I said it was transitional, so her place isn't really traditional. I always thought painted everything looked more traditional? Anyway, I saw her place but don't have a pic, and what I thought was that next to all these stained cabinets white paint might look off? Or not?

Hasn't anyone done this?

This is not exactly what you're looking for but I thought I would post anyway. We replaced all our ugly trim and doors in our 1980's home. We also installed hardwood floors and replaced the kitchen cabinets they are med stained cherry. Our windows are stained and we wanted stained doors but I wanted painted trim to break up the wood.

I see you left the door jambs stained? Mother's cabinets are probably close to your colour, except they're IKEA. She has wooden floors too though she was thinking of putting in tiles, but I think wood is probably better for her.

Someone posted this picture on another thread, and I am putting here to show what I meant by the entryway right next to where her cabinets start.

In this picture the trim is white, but I am thinking mother should go with a stain that matches her cabinets, instead of white. Her appliances are SS.

She had a door there but it has since been removed.

What do you all think, go for the stain trim?

I think the painted trim with the stained cabinets and even doors looks just fine. Some friends of ours have that, in a VERY nice home, and it is gorgeous.
