Thank you for your feedback. The loveseat currently pictured is only 66' wide. I'm looking at a traditional width sofa or sectional, closer to 100', which means the right edge would already have to move over a bit just for the left chaise end to be flush with the radiator. The etagere is temporary - there thanks to the movers.

Thank you Cecilia. I appreciate your suggestions. I've had my eye on a few Ruggable rugs for a while, similar color scheme to like what you showed, although my style is more toward world/global. I've got a few Middle Eastern and African textiles throughout the house. And some trinkets from my travels. I'm thinking the next rug will need to be 9x12 since I'm trying to use the whole room, and maybe less geometrical than the current one? I'm also realizing that rug positioning makes a HUGE difference in how the room feels. I've been so tired hauling sectional pieces all week that I've been lazy about positioning the rug, but It makes a world of difference. Hi Decoenthusiaste. I tried floating it in the center yesterday, but I could only figure out how to fit 3 pieces in that layout. I plan to bring the 4th piece into the house this weekend to fiddle around with it. The other struggle with that is how to get a lamp up close to the sofa for reading. I do like any L shape, since it's so comfortable :) Would you still put the FP/TV on that dining room wall if spaced out from the wall (a bit like my 3rd layout photo, but sofa out from the wall?) I agree with you that my favorite place for FP/TV is on the dining room wall. I just haven't figured out how to incorporate the whole room that way, because that brings all of the attention to that larger section of the room, and ignores section from entrance--dining room. Here is how I've currently arranged the room, with the 4th piece photoshopped in. The 4th piece could probably also be separated and roated perpendicular to the rest of the sofa. It actually is plenty of seating because it's usually just me and my BF anyway, and at least a sectional can form an L shape which is nice for conversation. My previous sofa only sat 3 people in a row. I never have big gatherings. I mostly just want a comfortable place to watch TV and read, and this sectional fits the bill perfectly. I love it. Just trying to determine the best layout, and whether the 4th piece is useful, or if I should exchange it for a different piece from the model. I also don't mind semi-blocking the entrance to the study. I'm the only one who uses that room because I work from home, and I'm able to access it through my bedroom, which has another doorway toward the main part of the house. Old house. Old style :)

The problem isn't the vent, it's the size of the sectional. It's too big for the room, period. 13" from the fire - expect to end up with scorched fabric. The room shown with the sectional in it is probably twice the size of your space. Cramming a sectional up against the windows and fireplace is definitely going to look like a mistake. For that size of room, I think any sectional will be too much. A couch with chairs is a better option and will seat more people more comfortably.

Swing the sectional so that it faces the staircase wall. Remove TV from fireplace. Get a long, low cabinets for the TV on that wall where you can place some of the toys. Put the piano next to the cabinets so it's part of the family space. Child's floor space can be near the window to the left of the fireplace, with toy storage in baskets or inside the cabinet underneath the TV. .
