French door or bottom freezer single door? Pic heavy
Comments (7)Yes palimpset, we're almost to the finish line on this reno! I guess we all kind of know that appliances don't appear to be made quite as well as they used to be - however they are more energy efficient, which is a tick in the plus column. We have what I believe is close to a 25 year old simple top freezer Kenmore refrigerator in our garage that my sister in law gave us 7 years ago which holds sodas, beer, wine, extra frozen meat and Costco buys. It continues to whirr along month after month like a little champ. There are definitely more options today and we are so very lucky to have informed access to them all. As much as I love the look and feel of the French door design, for me it's just not that ergonomic unless you have your fridge in a spot that's conducive to opening /using it from the front as opposed to the sides. Also, I realized that to open the great deli drawer (which I really like) requires that both doors be opened, which in the great scheme of things is probably not all that big of a deal, but still requires one more step. That all having been said, I'm still considering the French door style, so go figure. :-)...See Morefrench door bottom freezer or single door bottom freezer?
Comments (19)mtbgirl: Does that "mtb" stand for mountain bike?? We're big mtb'ers here! Hmmmm...the Samsung thing. The 29 CF FD got the JD Powers award for four years in a row. Its gotten alot of raves on this forum, I believe. Its not the one Im looking at but I've heard a lot of positive things about Samsung refrigerators. Now, Ive also heard some negative but the thing is, is that I read ALOT of reviews of brands that are in my price range (GE Profile, Samsung, Whirlpool) and there is so much positive/negative on them all that its really hard to make a decision. You find a brand that gets a LOT of positive reviews and just about make up your mind but then all of a sudden come across three or four negatives and-BAM-your decision is blown out of the water. I did look at Consumer Reports (which I know doesnt hold a lot of weight on this forum) and the Samsung was rated 4th, so..... Now, about Warehouse Discount Center....the thought of purchasing an appliance online scares me but if I could save that much money then I'd consider it. Have you ordered from them? Are they legit? Thanks for all of your input!...See MoreBottom Freezer Refrigerators - French door or Single door?
Comments (25)This was also my concern. Plus I want a counterdepth refrigerator. There aren't many single door ones available, but I am waiting for the new KA V series single door counter depth, freezer door on the bottom to be out. Should be soon. I have talked to KA several times about it. Anyway the V series is replacing their T series and I saw the same model in the French door type and liked the freezer drawer layout and studiness better. I have a friend who hated her french door LG and had door gasket problems that reocurred so much that the the store took it back and she now has the single door freezer on the bottom. She likes that arrangement much better for the same reasons already mentioned--only open 1 door when putting something away. I just imagine going to it with a large pan that I can barely hold in one hand and then needing 2 arms to prop open the 2 french doors. I do prefer their look, but I'm in and out of the fridge too often to give up the convenience of 1 door. Anyone have the V series French Door by Kitchenaid?...See MoreSingle French Door, Regular French Doors of Sliding French Doors
Comments (8)Decent quality sliding - or folding sliding doors - will do the job and last more than 15 years. Of course you have to fit them properly for a good seal so choose an experienced fitter, a specialist fitter or buy a door that can be fitted by the manufacturer. As with anything, you get what you pay for. Untreated softwoods are likley to warp over time so treated woods, hardwoods or metal doors will perform well over a longer period....See Moreedlakin
