Bottom Freezer Refrigerators - French door or Single door?
Comments (7)Thanks, stacey! Good point about being able to open the doors all the way. We are thinking about getting a counter-depth frig, so I definitely want a 36-wide to make up for the loss in depth. Anyone out there with a 36-wide single door frig? (I suppose this would include top freezers too) Is the door too big and heavy? Too much strain on the hinge? As far as French door refrigerators go, I am also wondering about having your door in the way of your countertop landing area. We will have a pantry cabinet, then refrigerator, then countertop. I wonder if it will be awkward to have the french door in the way. I guess the same would be true with a side-by-side, but I have never had one of those either. I am just so used to opening the frig with my left arm, grabbing what I want with my right and putting it on the countertop to my right. Those with french door frigs, do you always open both doors? I dont know if I like the idea of having to use both arms to open the frig. It's not that I'm THAT lazy, but it just feels odd. Any further input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!...See MoreSingle Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerators Users
Comments (12)Maxmom - I agree with you on having the wide shelves. I also like that when getting things out of the fridge I don't find myself doing deep knee bends to get to the back of the bottom shelf. live wire oak and eandhl - you bring up some good points, I am working on a kitchen plan right now and I need to check the width and aisle. My DH drew up a preliminary plan that I'm tweaking before I post it on the kitchen forum for help. He wants a full depth refrig and plans on recessing the wall behind it (the laundry room is on the other side). It will be at the end of a cabinet run with the island behind serving as the landing zone. I like live wire's suggestion of a french door style, but my DH is very firm that he does not want a French door refrigerator ("just one more thing to fail on it" - his words, not mine). We got our current single door bottom freezer Whirlpool under pressure when our 30+ year old SxS died it's final death (I swear that SxS had 9 lives; my DH could always replace a part and revive it!). We also bought it with the thought we'd put it in the lower level of the new house I do like the bottom freezer configuration better than the SxS. I have been thinking that is what I want in the new kitchen. But our Whirlpool is making some strange noises. It fit right in at Halloween, sometimes it sounds like a spook is trapped inside - LOL. We haven't had any problems and DH says it's fine. We do normally use CR, but I also like to check for real people's experiences and other resources, too. Thank you all for the comments and the food for thought. I'll do some more looking and go back to the plan for clearances. When I figure out our appliances, maybe youÂll see our layout post on the kitchen forum....See MoreGE Profile Refrigerator French Doors/Bottom Freezer Model GY22KSHHSS
Comments (0)I have owned this refrigerator 5 days and very noisy. I need to turn up the TV volume to drown it out. At the same time I purchased a range, microwave, and refrigerator. I am very disappointed in the noise but really like the refrigerator. This model has two french doors on top and freezer on the bottom. Anyone else with this problem and have you been able to remedy it? I honestly cannot live with this noise for years. I contacted the appliance store who were suppose to be contacting the GE rep. I haven't heard back so email GE. Thank you for any help or advice....See More36" bottom freezer Thermador refrigerator - french door or single??
Comments (5)French door fridges, like the side by sides before them, are designed for kitchens with narrow aisle, or, as in Stan's case, not too narrow aisles which you don't want to crowd. A lot of people dislike the two doors. They look cool in the store, but can get bothersome when you're opening and shutting all the time. It helps if you can organize your most used things to be on the side that opens first. Organized well is highly subjective. I want the greatest adjustability and the least amount of specialization. One thing to keep in mind is that the top of the door on the opening edge may not be the warmest spot in your new fridge. It isn't on my Miele. There's cold air coming in at the top, which counters any warmth from opening or heat rising. I don't know if there's a butterbox altogether, but if there isn't, adding a covered butter dish is easier than choosing your fridge for that one thing. BTW, if your kitchen isn't usually hot, you might be interested in a butter bell, which is kept on the counter and uses water to seal it. The butter is soft and spreadable always, and if you use a stick of butter in a week, it doesn't go bad. It's been very popular in these forums. Beyond that, which interior you like best is really up to you. If you google-images the model numbers you're looking at and "interior" you should get plenty of pictures and be able to tell what it's like if you can't see it in person....See Morechloe_s_mom
