If you are going to be painting, bright colors that reflect the light alot might be something to consider; otherwise I'd just go happy and cheerful!

raspberry would be fabulous. craft room should always be full of color!

My craft room is brick red...literally because it's all brick walls. The ceiling is white and the floors a celery green carpet. I honestly don't think the color really matters that much as long as it's a color you like being in so that the room can stir your creative juices.

Thanks for the feedback. I've never had a dedicated craft room so I really want to get this right. My instinct was to do something that I felt happy in. I guess the old saying about following your instinct is true.

I think the layout and materials are important, not so much the color. Ours is off white but it is mostly windows.

My craft room is on hold while other projects get finished, so right now it looks like a garage sale mashup in there. In a bad way.

The walls are the same off-white that's in the rest of the house, but I do have a very yellow chair with a very colorful seat that's going to be the starting point for color. I have lots of accessories to paint, so I'm pulling those colors from the chair. Furniture and big pieces will probably end up either black or white, just to give the eyes a rest.

I have mixed feelings about adding a strong wall color. It's already going to be a visually "busy" room. At least mine is, so how do you avoid that visual overload, while still making it a fun and happy and creative space? Or do you think wall color could be the thing that calms the whole mess down?

I agree that layout and organization are key to function. I finally had a wall outlet repaired, which allowed me to reconfigure the room, and it's made all the difference. A small filing cabinet to store patterns and a good-sized divided lazy susan have been a godsend for keeping me organized.

We just painted the girl's family room with Behr Apricot Light - I think it would be great in a craft room! It is a warm, happy color but in a subtle way. And I love how it changes with the light - from a light apricot to a lovely sand color.

I think Raspberry could be great as long as there are other neutral items in the room to ground the space. What color is the rest of your furniture? If I was going to go bold with the walls, I'd go very neutral with the other things in the room, or if I was going to go bold with the furniture, I'd go neutral with the wall color. I kind of like the sound of that apricot.

Well, as I said, the floor is a medium wood tone. The trim is white. I'm thinking of getting a couple of kitchen or bathroom cabinets to use as a base for a work table and I'm thinking of white for those. Then some sort of laminate/formica countertop but not sure of color for that.

My next step was to look for either drapes or a rug that I could base my color scheme on. What I have pictured in my head is something colorful on a white background.

Do you think that would provide a neutral enough "resting areas" for the eyes if I do a bold wall color?

Martha Stewart has a nice line of craft room furniture that isn't too expensive. Ikea also has nice sectional pieces you can put together for storage and counter space. When I was putting together my studio, I googled and looked at lots of pictures of craft rooms and studios to get ideas. Houzz.com has some on there site too. I wanted a soothing space to work in so I painted my walls BM Chrystalline, trim Manchester Tan and built-in cabinets Navajo White. I make jewelry and work with a lot of color in my beads and wanted a soft palatte for the walls. A natural spectrum light is nice to have when you're working in the evening.
Here's some pictures I found of Martha's craft furniture in a room setting. Homedecorators.com carries the pieces as do other places. I think having enough organized storage space and ample counter space are important elements for a craft room. I thought I had a lot of storage containers for my beads and findings and what not, until I came across the craft room for someone who does scrapbooking. OMG! You would not believe her studio. I make jewelry and have raspberry walls. I like the way it looks, but the color really soaks up the light at night. I will have to get different lighting in order to avoid frustration. When I had lighter walls this wasn't the case. I do like the way it looks in the daytime.

Oooh, I'd like to see those pictures, chickadee. I've started googling for more inspiration.

This will definitely be a budget project but I'm very excited. It may take me a while to complete but I will definitely share the results.
