what size grout line for subway tile? and recs for white grout?
Comments (14)If you have tight grout lines, you would be using unsanded grout, which looks whiter than the sanded version of the same color. We recently used TEX XT grout in Bright White--#910 in our bathrooms, and it looks very white. The large format Porcelanosa tile we used in our MB is a very white, very glossy tile, so we wanted a white grout that matched well. The XT is supposed to be more stain resistant (than other grouts?), so hopefully our white grout will be less likely to discolor (since it looks so pretty right now!). It's not necessary to seal it, but you can (with a solvent-based sealer). We sealed ours for added protection/peace-of-mind....See MoreDoes anyone regret white subway tiles for shower?
Comments (42)leavemeout: If you are dissatisfied with the color of your grout, you can either make it white again or change the color by using Grout Colorant. You can either recolor the grout white or even change to gray if you want. The colorant (I used Aquamix) is epoxy based and has a sealer in it and in my opinion it was very easy to apply. You put it on with a toothbrush or paint brush and then wipe off the areas where it smears on the tile. I used it on my kitchen floor and it really made a huge difference....See MoreBeveled or plain subway tile
Comments (9)3x12 is large for a backsplash unless you have a large splash area. but I didn't say that size! lol. I said 2x8, 3x9. 2x8 would be ideal. 2x8 shown here, see how subtle the gray grout looks w/the pattern? and here. compared to the 3x6. Dont' you think the pics above look a bit more classic/traditional? They do make a 2x6 subway (Encore Ceramics has them in any color) They don't look quite as stubby as the 3x6. Fireclay Tile also makes that size in a slew of glaze colors. but if you prefer the 3x6, then do that! To me it's extremely common and looks a bit more farmhouse. you could opt to do it in the 90 degree herringbone, shown here w/light gray grout However, the 3x6 bevel tile has a more traditional look to it. If that's the look you want, do that one. white on white w/white cabs. To me, this just looks bland. 3x6 bevel, light gray grout what do you think about the smaller mosaic? things you need w/subway tile; bullnose tile, or a liner that matches that glaze tile. if neither is avail, you could use a Schluter Jolly metal trim piece. If you use a bevel tile and you have a edge of a cabinet area w/open wall next to it, it's difficult to finish off those border edges. You will need a bullnose edge w/those tiles....See Morewhite subway tile looks blue when installed
Comments (69)My house is all painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove. The rest of the house has a lot of natural light and windows, so I chose to go with white walls and then add a lot of natural greenery. The downstairs bathroom and entryway are the only two spots that don't have the same lighting due to there only being one window (go figure!). Funnily enough, one of the guest bedrooms downstairs that will use this bathroom is white (walls, bedding) with gray blue accents (throw, pillow, art, rug) and then some natural green (olive tree). The other bedroom downstairs that will use this bathroom is white with gray and beige accents and then natural green incorporated again. Hope that gives some more background on what the rest of the house looks like. It's why I was hoping to keep the walls some sort of white so that it didn't stand out too much against the rest of the house. However, given that one of the rooms downstairs already successfully incorporates the pale blue/gray theme, I think that the bathroom will tie in nicely--just need to figure out paint and will try out multiple shades before we go with anything. Will keep you posted!...See MoreRelated Professionals
