My vote would be to stain it, since it is part of the "house" not part of the cabinets.

And yes to frosting the doors, unless you are super tidy.

I second everything palimpset said! Also, the frosted glass will tie into the tone of the painted cabs so you have the best of both worlds.

Third vote here for stained door and frosted glass.

I have to first know what the other interior doors in the house are...Painted or stained? I vote for whatever is consistent throughout the house, or at least, that floor of the house.

I also want to know how deep the pantry is, or how far back from the door the shelves and any contents will be. If things will be close to the glass, I guess I'd prefer the frosting. If everything will be set back, as long as the light is off inside, it probably won't show much. Since you seem to lean toward the frost, it sure won't hurt anything.

I second the idea it should match whatever the other interior doors in your house are, rather than the cabinets. I'd probably frost the glass so you don't have to worry about seeing clutter.

Definitely if you have other similar doors go with them. But I like the contrast that the raw wood has with the walls, and I think making it match the cabinets will make it too bright. How about red? (Just kidding, but robin's egg blue might be nice....)

Pllog: funny you say robins egg blue (thats the color of my free can of paint) I love the color but have nothing else that matches. I do have 2 french doors in the attached dining area that look like the pantry door, maybe could make it all work with the robin egg blue.

I think it would look nice stained. Have you looked at some other options for glass? Rain, reeded, bubble?
I am doing a pantry door like yours instead of the frosted glass full view that says pantry and I have decided to go with a glass other than frosted because I am so tired of frosted glass. Just a thought. There are a lot of really pretty glass options that will obstruct your view to the inside of the pantry.

michellemarie: the glass is already in the door. Is the options you are suggesting something like a film (like window tint) or are you refering to replacing the glass?
Frost just came to mind, becase I could spray it on myself. But I am open to suggestions

Daisy, if you like an eclectic look, and since you have the paint, I say go for the robin's egg blue on the pantry door and the french doors. It's a little unexpected, a little whimsical, should look great with the wood and the white, and will give you a little punch of color. Sometimes an accent element that doesn't match makes the design. And by repeating it in the dining room it grounds it in the design scheme for the house instead of being totally out of the blue. Well, in the blue...

Ooooh...I like the idea of a whole different color. Either match other doors or do something completely different. I'm not sure, though, about also doing the dining room. Then it becomes a decision for the whole house, and not just a kitchen fun thing. If just the pantry, it's akin to having a distinctly colored hutch, I think. An unfitted sort of look, like you discovered a cool door somewhere and included it.

Sorry. I should have realized the glass was in the door. Yes, I would frost being that the glass is there or you could do a fabric treatment behind the glass, but that might be too country. I am finding that these details are consuming all of my time. Are you almost done?

My biggest fear is I can stain and then paint over it if I dont like it, but I cant do it in the reverse order, whithout a huge hassle. My husband and son vote for stain. (MEN)

michellemarie: Yes all the details are consuming. I wake up in the night with an idea, and it drives me crazy. We are almost done. Mine was not just a kitchen remodel. It was a whole house build. It took 5 years, we did it all ourselves and paid cash. I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel now. Will pour the counter tops,and blow in the ceiling inslation this week, then all we need to do is trim and put down the flooring. Thanks for the help

mrslimestone used a window film that obscured the glass on her huge windows. If I recall she really liked it. There were several choices.

Your project sounds similar to what I have going on. 3 years ago this coming September, we started on a 2500 sq.foot addition to the back of our house. We have acted as our own general contractor and have contracted out what we couldn't do like the framing, electrical, and plumbing.
For the most part we have done everything else. We too have been paying cash so I really am watching it. I find myself at Lowes every other day looking at the clearance stuff.
Right when I think I can take a breather because I have made a decision like when I ordered my cabinets, I have another decision to agonize over. I was agonizing over the door stuff last week too. I went to Menards to special order doors and then I just couldn't decide on arched top or 6 panel. I still don't know.
