Here's a picture of the new kitchen as of yesterday. We're thinking the molding would continue and cover the soffit, so we have to think about color there too.

Love dentil moulding. Had it in my prior house and it stood apart.

You asked for pictures. Here is one of my favorite kitchens based on my current needs and thoughts. It's a Crisp Architect kitchen with soffits btw. I'm linking it below and hope the right picture shows up (green walls, but no dentil crown moulding). There are additional pictures to the kitchen.

One thought for you: crown moulding tends to approximate in size one's baseboard for a sense of symmetry. However, we've all seen kitchens where this is not the rule. Rules seem to be relaxing based on specific needs to create an effect.

Here is the photo showing the soffit running above the kitchen window, as in your space. It may help you envision your dentil crown. The crown moulding seems to be the same paint color of the cabinets. However, note the dishwasher in this expansive kitchen is a different white (more stark). There are photos of windows in a brighter white than the cabinets. Probably not a trend, but not all do the same whites in a white kitchen: white forgives :)

Thanks for the ideas and pictures! What do you think about the pantry? It will be the same cabinetry but black, and it will look like a built-in (it's just a space carve out in the wall right now...and the same molding will wrap around the hallway, including the top of the pantry. Black dentil or white dentil?

"We are having our carpenter recreate it to go above the white kitchen cabinets, then continuously flow into the hallway, across the top of the new black pantry, and over a transom".

Please tell us more about your pantry. How contiguous is it to your kitchen in feet/view? It is a pantry wall as opposed to room/closet with full built-ins of matching style/make black cabinets, right?

Continuing the same white dentil moulding in the pantry is what I would do. I might modify the pantry to be black and white in scheme. Black cabinets perhaps with a black trim, the white crown, then accent rug in white/ added white linens/art. The black and white combination is time honored.

Don't have time to make an album...sorry for the multiple follow-ups with pictures I'm about to post! Thank you all so much! This is my first crack at kitchen design and first ever reno and I've been so nervous about making the wrong choices. Grandparents just returned kids from an overnight (thank goodness for helpful grandparents!) Two days ago I was in tears...now I'm starting to see it all come together. Phew! Pantry is in as well as appliances.

Oh, the pantry is wonderful! I'd definitely stay with the white dentil moulding based on it's close proximity to kitchen and transom next to it.

It's a nice, tall built in that draws your attention to it!
