Shouldn't Crown Molding run to the ceiling (instead of 1/2 inch
Comments (37)I thought I would provide an update - Cabinet installer, after refusing to accept responsibility for his actions has been "relieved of his duties" and the problem has been resolved by the contractor. See picture below - still needs some clean up but is much much better. Thanks to all for reassuring me that I am not completely bonkers....See MoreFridge cabinet crown molding issues
Comments (12)Poor overall planning from the beginning to do this ''recess'' and not have a plan to either integrate the room crown into the design, or eliminate the room crown entirely. This is yet another reason drywall recesses are bad ideas to try to build in a fridge. They are neither fish nor fowl. You need around 1/2" on the sides for ventilation. You need to decide if you want room crown or cabinet crown, or how to do a transition between them, like with a plinth block. And the whole fridge and cabinet need to be pulled forward about 6'' to have this look like an actual cabinet instead of a hole in the wall. Yes, that means cacinet side panels....See MoreDifferent crown moulding profiles
Comments (6)Well, our kitchen cabinets are being made as we speak so I'm talking about what's on paper .... However, our house at present has no crown moulding, so the crown which will be installed throughout the house will also be installed in the kitchen. (I know, not helpful so far.) The kitchen is going to be a fairly bright white -- I mean, the kitchen cabinets and wainscoting. The trim in the rest of the house is almost a pale yellow -- it's a deep, deep cream (Benjamin Moore Calming Cream). We'll have all the kitchen crown and other trim (windowsill, baseboard, door casing) painted to match the fairly bright white. We'll have to have plinths where the kitchen meets the family room, though, as it will be in the Calming Cream and would just look plain goofy (I think) to have white meet yellow. Our colors are noticeably different. I'm having a hard time envisioning your two colors (the white with charcoal glaze and Navajo White) and if they'd fight or if there's a subtle enough difference so that it would be okay to have both in the same room. I like the idea of continuity, either whole-house continuity or room continuity. I think for a kitchen, which will have so much of the painted finish (cabinets, trim), I'd vote for the crown in your kitchen matching the color of your cabinetry (doing all in the white with charcoal glaze). Sorry I don't have anything to show you nor can I give you more help .... Good luck!...See MoreCabinet maker wants to spray paint crown molding while on cabinet
Comments (21)I think it does come down to the fact that I'm not 100% certain of his competency. We've had so many incompetent people involved in this remodel (costing us time and money) that I just don't want to take a chance on this. For example: --Contractor's assistant decided to cut drywall ON TOP of the piece of MARBLE we just had cut for the master bath shower bench (you can imagine the outcome of that) --Contractor's sub / electrician knocked holes in newly hung drywall in order to access what he wanted in order to avoid doing it the right way due to being "too much work." This same person also cracked/chipped about 8 slate floor tiles in the basement while working at the electrical panel. --Floor company took 3 weeks to complete hardwood staining/refinishing only to majorly screw up (I posted photos in another thread) the floor, leaving us to find another company to do it all over again. We've since been living in our basement for over 2 months. So...I could go on and on and on - those are just a few of many things. And so far we haven't asked our contractor to pay for even ONE thing he or his subs have screwed up. We simply want him to finish the job and GET OUT! Since everyone involved in our remodel seems to be having financial issues, we're lucky if anyone even shows up to work, much less have any idea when our "5-6 month" project which has stretched into 10 so far will be finished. Sigh.......See Moresmm5525
