That may convince me to go with granite! How pretty!

I love the look of a granite backsplash, but having blown 20K on appliances, I don't think its in the cards...

Some granites could be a little dark, maybe a bit heavy looking, but some kitchens need a little more visual 'weight'.

Where did you get your stools?

Beachcomber, i got the counter height stools from Pottery Barn. They are called Tibetan Barstools and come in a couple different heights.

I also went with a matching granite backsplash but I used tiles rather than slab for the backsplash - about 1/3 the cost of slab. Pictures on my home page or on the Finished Kitchens blog.

The tile will not "chop up" the kitchen if you select a color & material that doesnt fight with the stone. And on the flip side a full granite back splash can overwhelm a room if there is "too much". If the back splash is going up and around windows your look at a lot of extra cutting of the stone and you want to make sure the edges are tight to the mouldings, etc. Also if your stone has a lot of movement or flow to it see if you can get it cut so that the flow goes acroos the countertop and up onto the wall. That's a really hot look!

thanks! the granite has specs of dark cherry which is a perfect match to the cabinets.

the slabs were called Kerala Green, but the granite is also known as Tropical green, Hawaiian Green, Verder Laura and a bunch of other names. They all come from the Kerala state in India.

We love our full granite backsplash. Very easy to keep clean.

You have all been really helpful!! We are about 99% decided on the full granite backsplash. We are going with the tropical brown. Now for the sink and faucet! More questions to come!!!

Granite is sooooo much less expensive too! I found mine too darken my kitchen too much so I'm taking it down after 3 years of hating it and I'm going to do a light marble subway tile. It will cost a small fortune but I spend so much time in the kitchen I know it will be worth it. Really consider your kitchen's light if you are going to go for granite backsplash.
