Anyone save 2010's Christmas tree & mantel pictures?

If so I need to look at my mantel. LOL. I have it on a flash drive, but I can't find it at the moment, plus I'm on a new computer.

I'm doing my mantel a bit different and I need to see where I placed the stockings last year. Sounds weird but I know I had two scooted on each side of the opening of the FP because of the heat. But when I did the same this morning, it sure seems like a fire hazzard!

I did a search and I really think GW got rid of a LOT of old topics! grrrrr.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!! I remember when my picture showed up on the contest page and it dawned on me I should have had a fire going since it was for fireplaces! lol

Thank you! Can hardly wait to see the Christmas pictures! I've been looking all over for them, including Pinterest. My best friend lost her husband of many years at the beginning of May and she has decided that she is going to 'do up' Christmas this year in memory of him. Because of her husband's serious illness and being a quad-paraplegic, she hasn't decorated for the holidays in several years, other than maybe a wreath on her front door. This is the first enthusiasm I've seen from her in months. She didn't want to do traditional and her husband loved the color purple. My GF and my husband used to call us the Purple Bobbsy Twins because purple is also one of my favorite colors. When she mentioned it a couple weeks ago I immediately thought of the purple Christmas and Holloween pictures that was posted here and have been on the hunt ever since. Unfortunately, she lives in Georgia and we now live in Arizona (both of us originally from California) so all our ideas are thru emails, links and phone calls. I'm really trying to keep her interested and enthusiastic even tho the Christmas holidays are a couple months away. To make it even worse, she lost her mom just six months before her husband. I know it's going to be really hard for her the closer the holidays get so I want to help to make it interesting and fun. BTW, isn't there a holiday inspiration galleries (trees, mantels, porches, etc.) on GW? Am I completely missing it? Thank you again! Jenna

We have a holiday party every year and in the past, it has been earlier in Dec., but this year it's not until the 12th, which is good because our house is a disaster outside, in the midst of a re-siding project! Usually I do like to put up the outside lights and garland the first weekend of Dec., but that will have to wait until probably the 12th... siding job is supposed to be done by then! Today I had to do something so I bought a wreath and a mantel garland from a nursery. This weekend we'll unpack our new fake tree and decorate it. I would love to have a real one but DS2 is allergic. Every year I seem to eliminate a few decorations because I just get tired of them, but I never get tired of my Santa collection. I have about 20 or so different Santas -- some are figurines, some are made out of wood, one is stuffed, etc. Every year I do something different with them. One year I stuffed them all on the mantel. This year they're all going on the shelves in my kitchen. I find that I appreciate them more when they're all together rather than scattered around the house. Lavender, this will make you feel better. I have a collection of plastic Rudolph toys that I display as if they're fancy decorations. I figure Christmas is my excuse to be as tacky as I want to be!

Thanks for this thread! I am pleased to report that I hosted 9 adults and 4 kids for Christmas eve. We are an Italian family so we cook a seafood dinner on Christmas Eve. I have hosted a few times in the past but have never gotten the timing and all the dishes right (I have always had trouble timing the seafood to be done at the right times).... This year was a first. My kitchen held up to everything I had hoped (and more). I had all six burners of my 36" Electrolux ICON range running at the same time! It was soo much fun. We started with a Lobster bisque - that was a lot of work and I'm not sure I would do that again but it was soooo good I don't think I will have a choice!!! We then moved onto crab cakes which were amazing. That was a bit of a challenge because I was able to prepare them ahead of time but they needed to be fried just before serving. Then we moved on to Shrimp Parmagiana and Scallops in a white wine butter sauce (both prepared by my guests but heated up in the new oven) as well as stuffed lobster tails. We were able to get everything on the table at the right times and keep everything moving - including keeping the kids happy! We also served the main course from the Peninsula so that the table was not too crowded. I can't say how happy I was to cook in my new kitchen. Everyone was comfortable (although it was a little crowded at the table because my dining room is small) and was able to move around the kitchen with ease. We had the kids at a small table off the end of the peninsula. I made pasta and chicken nuggets for the kids in between there too. Clean up was a breeze since we could put all the dirty dishes on the peninsula until the dishwasher was ready for them..... It was a great time for everyone and we really put my new space the test! I am happy to report that it passed with flying colors! I am also happy to report that my new wood floor (prefinished brazilian teak) really held up well too. I cleaned it up on Saturday morning and it looks great! I have two more events to host (Friday and Sunday). I am looking forward to both! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Does Frontgate not use standard Christmas tree replacement bulbs??

Do you have Balsam Hill? On my ~ 12 year-old Frontgate, have never encountered a bulb different size than the others. And I bet I've replaced every one of them by now! But mine may be different. MANY times if I replace any that are discolored, plug a socket ALL the way into the lightkeeper tool, and click the trigger a few times, the branch will come back on. but sometimes a long struggle, trying to trace which part of branch has power, which doesn't then concentrate in the area in between as the area where the bad bulb should be. very hard to trace the wire exactly though. if no power anywhere in strand, check fuse, plug if you notice a BRIGHT branch (bulbs getting too much power at risk of blowing more), or bulbs out "during the season" replace any out that you see/can reach. if a whole branch is out once ornaments up, forget it Every year I consider an LED tree, but it's not the same look and some have flicker and I'm not convinced about getting replacement bulbs for those though haven't researched. I'd buy a bunch at the same time as tree if I did. It's a myth that LED don't burn out. At least you shouldn't lose the whole strand though. With this tree most of the work is FINDING the bad one when whole strand is out

This is our tree in our rental house last year. This is my "laissez faire" Christmas. I put away the yard stick, the color-coded diagram and laser tape measure and just let the kids have fun. OMG, someone even wrapped something in ...red.

oakley - You don't know how I wish I saved some of the threads/pics from 2010 holiday! Thankfully, a very saavy poster (dawnp, IIRC) found me a good part of what I am looking for with the ribbons over in the Holidays section of GW. You might try looking over at the Holiday threads if there's anything else you want to find. Can't remember the name of the particular poster, but she has complied a scrapbook of sorts of ideas and projects that have been done by other participating posters for anyone to view. So helpful, and there are many talented and extremely friendly posters over on the Holidays. There isn't any drama, and I've always found it to be a pleasure to participate over there for sure. Judithva, in particular, walked me through a couple of things by private email. I have her to thank for the decor for my DD's Sweet 16 birthday party! Can't believe that was 5 yrs. ago.

Despite using every word combo search here on Decorating, looking for last year's holidays pics, I came up with nothing. I couldn't find anything older than 2011 with regard to Christmas decorating.

Maybe you could start a 2011 mantle thread here this year. If not, please share a pic of your 2011 decorated mantle. I always love seeing how the mantles are decorated. So wish we had a fireplace. Fortunately, I live vicariously through my DM as she and DD have a mantle. Every holiday season I spend a day helping DM with the holiday decorating. Would love to talk her into using bleigh's 2010 mantle as a guide. I just sent her a copy of the pic via email yesterday. You know, subliminally, putting little ideas in her head so that when she's ready for me to come, maybe I can persuade her to try something different this year. Bad, I know.

mtnredredux - first, tell me about your user name;). Not an easy one to remember, I had to copy & paste. Hoping not to spell it incorrectly, lol. Any event, your tree is/was beautiful. Your pup, oh boy, what a face. Yes, I do see that there is a gift under your tree that is wrapped in your not at all favorite "red" ;). More importantly, I see alot of things on your tree that could lead you in a direction of a tree decorated sans any red.

Won't be making the same mistake this year. This year, I am going to copy all of my favorite holiday pics to my computer so that I am not searching like a crazy woman this time next year.

WIP, I pop in and out of the holiday forum all year. Right now they're still on Thanksgiving decor, so I don't participate much.

OMG, thank you so much MsVentoux!

That was a lot of fun. I learned several things

1. I need to buy me some more ribbon
2. I like white trees. But can I get a natural one somehow? : )
3. I would like to move in to IglooChic's home. More specifically her son's bedroom, which I hope does not sound too forward. I wouldn't need to use his Legos or anything.
4. In another life, If I don't come back as a Shaker again, I want to be Chijim.
