Can you please tell me what is wrong with my Sungold?
Comments (5)Hey Betsy, Thank you for your response. I'm certain it is not overwatering, I have been watering once a week since we have not had any rain (fortunately yesterday we got about 3/4 of an inch!!!!). That is not a drip line, it is a watering system that has spouts about every third tomato plant that sprays a light mist at the base of the plant. Additionally, it is the only tomato plant out of 17 that is doing this. The soil has been heavily amended with manure and compost (at the start of the season) and since planting I have fertilized them with MG once and sprayed and watered with compost tea once. I read online this could be a nutrient problem: http://5e.plantphys.net/article.php?ch=t&id=289 "Nitrogen. The chlorotic symptoms (see Web Figure 5.1.D) shown by this leaf resulted from nitrogen deficiency. A light red cast can also be seen on the veins and petioles. Under nitrogen deficiency, the older mature leaves gradually change from their normal characteristic green appearance to a much paler green. As the deficiency progresses these older leaves become uniformly yellow (chlorotic). Leaves approach a yellowish white color under extreme deficiency. The young leaves at the top of the plant maintain a green but paler color and tend to become smaller in size. Branching is reduced in nitrogen deficient plants resulting in short, spindly plants. The yellowing in nitrogen deficiency is uniform over the entire leaf including the veins. However in some instances, an interveinal necrosis replaces the chlorosis commonly found in many plants. In some plants the underside of the leaves and/or the petioles and midribs develop traces of a reddish or purple color. In some plants this coloration can be quite bright. As the deficiency progresses, the older leaves also show more of a tendency to wilt under mild water stress and become senescent much earlier than usual. Recovery of deficient plants to applied nitrogen is immediate (days) and spectacular." So, I will try using a fertilizer that can supply a heavier dose of nitrogen and see what happens, at this point I don't think I have anything to lose. BTW, these Sungolds are awesome! I wil take any additional thoughts you have on this!! Thanks, Mary...See MorePlease tell me which layout do you like better by a quick look?
Comments (26)Again, thanks a lot to everyone for sharing your thoughts. Below layout is what we settled on. I know it's by no means the best design, but it will be functional, and it required compromises from all parties involved (yes, that includes the cats too). The wall cabs are bumped out 2 inches. With the cover panel covering the doors and slight over hang, the cats will have a 15" deep platform. The counter top in front of the wall cabs will be about 11" deep, which is what my DH wanted ("to set things down on"). Good night and happy 4th everyone!...See MorePlease tell me which granite you would pick between the two
Comments (18)Thank you everyone I placed the order for the Yellow River. I am so glad everyone likes the same one. There are so many decisions to make it is hard. Thank you again....See MorePlease tell me which 30" gas range you have.
Comments (11)If all you really want is "a reliable, basic gas range", I've been really happy with our Frigidaire. All gas; two "power" burners (one is like 15K BTU and another somewhat smaller) and a simmer burner. Self-cleaning; good-sized oven and waist-high broiler so we have pot storage under the range. Freestanding. For a couple hundred more than what we paid years ago, we could have had a fifth burner and Frigidaire's convection feature (which then was just a fan in the oven cavity; one reason we passed on it). Aside from one installation-related issue (this was a Lowe's model scratch-n-dent) it has been problem-free for 14 years. Are there better ranges out there? Without a doubt. I'd like a wok burner, but I don't have the ventilation for it. We live among the regular folks, so a $2000+ stove would be nice but it far outstrips the neighborhood standard. But it looks like the current roughly-equivalent model at Lowe's -- or even a fancier five-burner convection model -- would fit handily into your budget....See MoreRelated Professionals
