Did anyone hit up the black friday sale of the Corelle dish set for $18. at Target?

I did, I picked up 2 sets. I was using ceramic dishes which were getting all chiped up, so I thought I'd give these a try. My sister and mom uses them, so I figured what the heck.

I know we had discussed white dishes before and whoever commented that you can store alot more of the corelle pieces is right. I woudn't mind picking up another set too.

No I did not, though I did hit up the Corelle outlet last May and bought 3 dozen of the dinner plates for entertaining. The entire stack is only 8" high, though is quite heavy. I have a different set I use for everyday, though switching over to white is very temping, esp. if the sale is still on at Target.

Out of stock online... sigh... even the patterned ones I'd take instead are also out of stock online.

I am reviving this thread, as I am looking to replace/upgrade my everyday stoneware dishes. Was thinking I wanted to get plain white, but while shopping did find I was drawn to the colourful stoneware dishes... Part of the reason I wanted to replace my current set was the grey (Now I know from cutlery) marks all over the dishes. From reading this post, I cleaned them all off with BKF, magic eraser didn't work at all. Totally amazed at how new they all look, but many of the plates have chips under the rims, so am going to buy new. After doing research on the web for a few days, it is not 100% clear how to avoid those cutlery marks on dinnerware, various opinions blamed the SS count, ie whether is was 18/10, 18/8 etc. I have a feeling it is the stoneware that marks up the most. My porcelain and my good china dishes aren't marked. DH says it's because they're not used as much. He's right, they don't get much use, but I'm wondering if those of you who DO use porcelain or bone china daily still get grey marks. To make it even harder, just got an email today that Ikea is putting their Fargrik 6 place setting stoneware set on sale for $19.99! Maybe I just buy 2 sets of that for now, and wait to fall in love with some coloured/patterned set and buy when it's on sale. Still won't address the grey cutlery marks...

All my dishes are polish pottery, the majority of which I've collected over the past years from TJ Maxx & Marshall's. I'm now considering changing my kitchen countertops to granite and one of my concerns is the busy pattern of granite with the busy pattern of my dishes. I can't imagine the pottery on granite but don't want to give up my dishes. I love some of my pieces. Oh, and I was introduced to Polish pottery by my SIL, who was a military wife in Germany for two tours.

I'm rewriting this entire post because my link did not work. I replaced my Blum drawer runners with Heavy duty runners on my 36" drawers because my soft close stopped working & the drawer felt unstable (too much weight) when it was open. It took the installer about 10 min per drawer to make the switch. My HD runners are the 568H (110 lb dynamic weight/125lb static weight). The 568H is being phased out by Blum & is replaced by the 569H. The 569H supports even more weight -135lbs dynamic/150 lbs static. This post was edited by romy718 on Thu, Jul 24, 14 at 23:17

I have a set of the Hotel Collection bone china from Macy's. It goes on sale for 50% off on a regular basis and may have an additional 10% off. A 4 place setting set runs between $100-115 then (currently on sale for $115. The extra discount doesn't apply now, but they have a promotion going where you get a gift card that you can spend on anything next week.). We opened a credit account and got an additional 20% off when we bought ours. Bone china feels delicate, but it is very strong. Living with 2 teen boys and a DH who is hard on things in general, I've had only one broken piece in years, and that was because something heavy was dropped right on the edge of the plate in the DW (told you DH was hard on things) . Other pieces have been dropped, banged, etc. without incident. Porcelain in next in line, though some types are stronger than others. Pottery and stoneware are most likely to chip or mark.

I love the versatility of white dishes. You can even splurge occasionally, buying salad plates in different patterns or colors for even more options. Great buy, A1SB!

I just scored a set of 29 Pfaltzgraff "Filigree" for $7 at the thrift. 9 dinner plates, 10 salad plates, 9 soup bowls, and a coffee cup. Woohoo!!

I had the epiphany the other day to pare down my vintage collections of dishes. I'm only keeping the small plates and bowls, and getting rid of all of the dinner plates, cups, saucers, and serving pieces. It all goes with the white plates and serving pieces, so I can still have my vintage china, but get a LOT more space. We have a bazillion white plates and coffee cups for entertaining, so there's no need to duplicate that.

Sounds like a good bargain for Corelle..I have the "Iris Shadow" pattern for everyday use and love it. I ordered matching drinking glassed direct from the Corelle Distributor(World Kitchen in Green Castle, Pa.) The serice is speedy and packed extremely well and they are delivered right to my door in about 3 days..

One thing to say for white dishes, you can add color to your table settings by using color tablecloths, napkins and flowers and keep the cost of having many sets of dishes to store. Check out the decorating blogspot called Starfish Cottage in Fla. The blog owner is Kristy and she's an Interior Designer and she tends to add her color in the table linens, flowers, accessories and sticks to white dishes. You can make any table look beautiful by simplicity.
Sometimes when you add too many dishes of different colors, patterns, it makes the tablescape look too busy and the viewer has too much to try to see and absorb.

We downsized in 2005 from a large home that had lots of storage space to a smaller home all on one level with minimum storage space. There's another reason why using just one set of white dishes and adding color in other ways is important. I didn't think much of it until I saw Kristy's decorating blogspot this week. Makes a lot of sense.

Pippi21, that's funny. I just discovered Starfish Cottage last month, and am totally addicted!

Her whole house seems to be neutral (including dishes) so she can mix in whatever seasonal color/elements she wants.

In fact, circa today, the most recent blog entry on the page features white dishes for Thanksgiving.
