Went and saw Misty Carrera Ceasarstone today

and unfortunately it isn't marble-like to me. It was too flat or something, just doesn't have the depth or contrast of the real thing. The woman at the stone yard gave me a few marble samples and a bottle of sealer. I am going to seal them tomorrow and start abusing them. I think I am also going to suck it up and pay for Corian samples of Rain Cloud, just in case I may like it. Seems to me that trying to get a granite that looks like marble is a tall order, and the ones that are light enough etc, also have the staining issues...

Hi sandlll - have you seen any white quartzites that you like? Some here have found it to be a suitable alternative to marble. I have no staining/etching concerns with mine. Pricing is variable depending where you are, but seems to be on par with higher end granites, less than some marbles.

Man made can never truly emulate nature. If you are willing to be flexible you can have a stunning kitchen
with quartz or corian or eco-counters or Caesar-stone. I
am not talking you out of marble as marble is divine but I
wanted you to see some images of manmade counters that can
be stunning like marble with a little less of hassle. I
say this as a white marble addict.

If it helps any, I've also been considering these. The sample I saw of the zodiac was indeed more contrasty, but I personally didn't care for it--looked more like ink lines or limestone than marble, but it's a nice look if that's your style. Where I am the Misty Carrera is more expensive because Caesarstone is more than Zodiac. I think this varies greatly by region, so you should check locally. You probably couldn't find a picture of the zodiac because it's really "Bianco Carrara".. Cool tin ceiling edlakin! I like the countertops too. I was originally thinking of misty carrera, since I have always loved carrera marble and had it in a bathroom but I kind of burned out on it. Maybe if I saw a slab of it I'd have a better idea. This is really hard. I need to go to a stone place and see a bunch of stuff in bigger sizes, and also get some prices to see where everything comes in. Thanks for all the cool pics and ideas though.

Wow! Redroze, that marble in your bathroom is beautiful. Firsthouse, I am awake early and with a bundle of nerves. I feel overwhelmed sometimes as we are rushing to finish our kitchen. This was almost a disaster to rush, probably especially for me as each choice takes me so long to decide. And I think the pressure of feeling that I need to decide NOW on so many things has made it worse. (Almost like paralyzed panic!) To make a long story short, I am probably now trying to choose between Ceasarstone Raven and a Black/grey granite. I will not get the Pietra Cordosa as more than one source says it is easy to chip, etc. I still like the look of the Ceasarstone. I saw a picture of it on Smarge's kitchen and LOVE it. When I read how she chose it (Thank you Smarge for the pictures and your comments) I could see how I have similar thoughts and ideas. Even how she has marble and the beautiful mosiac backsplash. (My inspiration for my kitchen was originally the seaglass that I collect and I was thinking some of those colors mixed in a backsplash) I did see a honed absolute black countertop in a kitchen design store which both my DH and I liked. It had a box of ceasarstone samples on the end of it and I could have sworn that someone there told us it was ceasarstone. I went back to look at it yesterday and found out it was really granite. I liked it again, so this is a possibility too.

HELP! Bailing on Carrera tile at last minute - how crazy is this?

Thanks for your thoughts...it just goes to show there are lots of ways to do this kitchen. I do really like that tile with Organic White but too cold overall for me...and I don't love it with the fabric but my designer does. She fired me today. She is frustrated because she is "not getting to design". I chose not to bring up the fact that since day one I have been saying I want a white kitchen and ever since that she has been trying to talk me out of it. She also hates my farm table - says it's "been done". She wants me to do an industrial table - (IMHO, also "been done" ) and I did flirt with the whole marble/industrial look but in the end, not for me. Ooops, wrong person to guide me. So the moral of this story seems to be..."To Thyself be True"...but don't do it with Buttermilk Ceasarstone. I think everyone is right - it will look dirty with the white - I am now thinking Organic White or Blizzard -the two whites I loved from the beginning. I am going to find a tile that I can get quickly. Yes, forgive my former designer, a white tile. Then, after a few less painless decisions, (hardware, stools...), before I get my kitchen back, I will get my life back. Can't wait!

Boxerpups, the first sample photo of Quartzite looks like Silestone's Stellar Snow. It is a white speckled with gray and little sparklies all through it. It definitely does not stain. We have it in the kitchen up in Massachusetts, and I love it so much we are going to use it for the counters in our Alabama cottage too. (Probably along with the backsplash that Scottielee put on her kitchen, Biazza Damasco Bianco Glass tiles).

The Stella Snow pattern shows absolutely no fingerprints or even dust or breadcrumbs or anything. Beet juice nor KoolAid can stain it, nor red wine. It is perfect in my book.

We will also be using the same Silestone series in the black version for vanity tops in two baths when we get that far in our redo.

At the Design Center in San Francisco, the Christopher Peacock showroom has a sample kitchen with the Misty Carrera. I was dubious, but it actually looks really great. Granted the cabinets with their walnut interiors help the look substantially, but I was surprised that the total look was nice. I too am a marble lover, but my DH just wouldn't allow it. We had marble in our bath at our old house and it had some crazy etching that bothered us daily.

We decided to go with white granite and have been very happy with it.
