Christine- That is so true! If any of these artists liked cats, wouldn't the faces be much cuter? Couldn't they use some of these adorable kitten calendars, for artistic inspiration? LOL

Cat lover- I think you should definitely use the kitty knobs! Can you post pictures of all the choices? The sage walls and wood floors sound beautiful :)

Are the cabinets going to be white or wood? My mom has maple wood cabinets, almost black (faux granite) countertops and leaf/green walls...and it looks wonderful together. The darker countertop might be a good choice with the green. Would a glass tile work, if the countertop was more plain? Maybe an absolute black granite?

Is this cottage looking? My original vision of a farm sink, white cabs and marble hasn't exactly become a reality. Along the way there were some major changes but in the end it will be nice to have a new kitchen.

Love the cat pulls! They're all nice choices, but those first kitty pulls are beautiful.

I have the vintage version of the glass knob you show.

One thing we have run into - and haven't yet resolved - is that the old cupboards and knobs with screws sticking out the back side of the door didn't have frames to bump into.

We have some cabinets where we need to "trim" the screws because they run into the frame. We haven't tried yet, and are slightly dubious as to how it's going to turn out.

Lavender, what a great photo! I am considering getting a wood countertop from Ikea as a DIY project. I saw the man from HGTV I hate my kitchen show install a wood countertop over a Kohler sink and think we could do this. As for beadboard, we are still considering it although our kitchen is very small and we were told it may overwhelm the space. I am afraid it may not work as a BS because of the water near the sink and our cooking habits. I do love it too so once the kitchen is done, I may find a way to get it into the dining room.

1929, I have the same concern about the depth of the screw and thickness of the cab doors. I believe DH said you can cut the screw down but what about the threads? Do you have the doorknob style (octagon-ish shape) or the one where you can see the metal smack in the center? I really like both a lot but am leading towards the one with the visible metal in the center since I have the old glass doorknobs throughout the house.

We are finally getting into the fun part. Some of these decisions along the way have been dreadful for me!

Regarding your 27" sink base, just in case it's helpful, don't forget you could cut the sides of the cabinet boxes down to fit in a sink that ran too large. Beyond the inside measurement of your sink cabinet, You'd probably have up to an inch and a half on one side for two box thicknesses and 3/4 inch on the other if there's a DW there. That's just to get space for the upper-outside of the bowl. The overall width at the top of the sink including flanges can be wider still, of course, since that part can spread out on top of the boxes. That's how we fitted in everything we wanted.

Hi Rosie. We purchased a 25x22 sink that we were told would fit. It did not unless we cut the cab but not the cab itself but rather the pieces of wood that run from the front to the back inside the cab. I have seen cabs with 4 triangles in each of the corners but our cab guts run front to back. Are you telling me that we can also cut the sides? We returned the sink because they said it would void the warranty but I realized last night, I am going to be cutting the cab anyway because I have the hot and cold pipes, the drain pipe, dw connection and toe kick heater going in so is it really going to matter if I squeeze the sink in? The store said you are not supposed to do it but everyone does. We'll see!

I love the 1st two knobs. They definitely look cottage-y. English or Victorian cottage, actually.
I'm very sorry to inform you, however, that the two metal kitties look constipated. It's the face thing.

Yes, it was part of the top flat surface on each side, away from the corners, that had to be removed to allow the bowl to slide down. My husband and son were prepared to install flat metal brackets and straps if it felt desirable to add back any support, but in our case the cabinets were completely stable and still gave so much support that neither felt it at all necessary. The brackets are still sitting around here someplace.

As for the warranty, how much do you worry about needing to exercise it? In our case, our sink is a large, good quality stainless steel unit and having to submit a claim if it cracked, for instance, is simply not an issue. It'll be here long after we're gone. The real thing is, though, that installing it as we needed to gained us a LOT. Specifically, my 15" drawer stack for silverware, etc., AND a sink capable of holding the biggest items flat, and of hiding a ton of waiting mess if it comes to that.

Dh wants shiny chrome, I surprisingly was thinking of more of a satin. My original thought was black but I don't care for it against the white cabs. I do have a shiny chrome bridge faucet, sage green walls, pine floors and am doing a dark granite, possible dark green Pavao. Wanted a cottage look. It is a small kitchen and I want to do glass knobs on the uppers. Thoughts? TIA.
