Have drawings - can I improve it?

Got the drawings back from the cabinet maker today:

It's nice, but it's lacking something. To me it just looks plain, maybe because I can't visualize how it'll look in real life. I'm using natural alder. The uppers will have glass fronts lined with fabric, inspired by these gorgeous kf kitchens:

I don't want the uppers over the fridge or range to be glass do I? What about the one over the plate rack? I don't really know. Somehow it just looks like no one even tried to jazz it up.

I'm trying really hard to rein in costs and be sensible, but if I had the budget this is the one that makes my heart flutter:

But, my kitchen is a functional workspace d*mmit! Lol.

Can you see anything quick and easy in my kitchen that would give it some oomph? Or is it fine and I just can't visualize it because it's in black and white lines, and I'm a full color, romantic style kinda gal?
