Where's the sink and where is food storage?

There's a large walk in pantry next to the fridge for food storage and here's the island with the sink.

the stove looks squished - and for no reason as I look at it. some people need to do that because they don't have space but you do. I'd move it to the right and even it out.

Not sure that this is the best use of the space that you have. Agree that the range needs to move to the center of that run.

How do you foresee the movement of prepped foods and the movement of dirty & clean dishes?

Is there a roll-out garbage can next to the dishwasher? Where will dishes be stored?

If the sink and the dishwasher exchanged places, it would be easier to separate groceries & produce going to & from the refrig from dirty dishes awaiting attention. But you would still have range-ready meat & raw veg moving from there to sink and then toward range and perhaps dirty dishes moving to same spot.

If there were a water source on the refrig wall, the prep could be done there.

Where did you foresee doing the chopping of veg, etc?

I would like to see a floorplan to see how the perimeter related to the island. That may explain the range position.

The dishrack does not make a lot of sense in its location away from the sink and DW. I realize you won't be using it like an actual dishrack the way Europeans do, and you will be putting dry dishes in it, but it looks a bit random in its location.

You do have a *lot of counterspace between the fridge and range and it makes me wonder why that run was not considered for the range. But I really need to see a floorplan that shows the relationship of the perimeter to the island.

Where are your other spaces, in relation to the island? Do you have any windows in the kitchen? Is there a breakfast nook or dining room?

Your inspiration pictures are beautiful, but you need some space for the valances, and other romantic touches, to bring your kitchen to life! I like the fabric on some of the upper cabinets, too.

Can you switch the walls for the range and fridge? I'd rather see the fridge on the short wall (at the end) then the plate rack, then put the range on the long wall, with your great hood (more of a focal point) and the fabric upper cabinets, on either side.

I think this would really make the range stand out, with the fabric uppers...and please put that light (from the last inspiration photo) above the island! It would look amazing :)

I agree -- fix the layout and then worry about details like which doors get glass. But, no, I would not put glass over the fridge or the range where a vent duct should be.

Realize that the range without fillers on both planes of the corer is not going to allow either the oven door to open, nor the three drawers adjacent to it. To solve this without changing the symmetry of the equal-sized drawer bases, all of them will need to be made smaller to allow the filler strip, which has to be wide enough so the top drawer clears the range handle. Could be as much as a 5" filler. Then for the range to open w/o hitting the drawer pulls, at least a 2" filer has to go against the 5'" filler to move the rage away from the corner. This throws off the centering of the hood to the range, so if that's an issue, you'd have to adjust the upper layout, too. Needless to say, if you are constrained at the right end of the range wall, (like with a door or corner) the cabinets to the right of the range/hood would need to be made correspondingly 2" narrower.
As it rests, the elevation with the same size and shape units above and below is very austere. If there is no smaller pattern (rich wood grain?) or richness of detail brought in somewhere (incredible backsplash?), IMO it would be very blah...

I don't think his drawing is quite accurate in the range position. It should be over a few inches to the right to allow for filler space. We discussed that when he was measuring. He's coming out this afternoon and we'll be going over it again.

Unfortunately the electricians and plumbers left yesterday so I'm stuck with the appliances where they are. I spent A LOT of time tweaking this and I think it'll work for us.

The fridge is placed so that people in the dining area or living room can get a drink without getting underfoot. The dishrack is placed next to the stove so I can plate at the stove. It's also convenient to the dining area so a helper can set the table for me without coming into the work zone.

The long run of countertop will be using for baking and veggies will be prepped mainly on the counter between the sink and range. There's a trash pullout under the sink on the side closest to the range. I think it's functional. I hope.

Hmmm, not sure it can be improved without moving appliances around. How wide are your aisles? Especially the one between the island and the range counter. It looks a little tight in your drawing, but there are no dimensions listed.

Also, I'm sure you've thought of this, but be sure your fridge door stick out a little from the pantry wall so they can be fully opened.

Hmmm, I note that you could still use my "radical idea" from the last thread without moving the appliances. I don't blame you if you don't, however; I think mine may cook better than your layout, at the considerable expense of looking, err, odd.

I really like the overall look you're going for, Rosieo. It's going to look very charming! I just wanted to say, if you did decide a change would be good, don't sweat the relatively small amount it'd take to bring the trades back. My few regrets on the home we built are ALL about not biting the bullet and having the guys on site redo things that had me biting my lip at the time--and we built on a small tight budget. Looking back, it would have cost so little in the overall picture. Sigh...

As for adding more detail, you can buy decorative cabinetry details like those in your dream picture on line, or even a local big box store for a smaller selection, brush on a matching finish, and glue them on yourself. The center panels of solid doors over the stove would make a good place for a matching pair.

You could also make the "crown" at the top of the long run of cabinets top a flat "schoolhouse" type board and place details on that flat surface; that looks like it might run the cabinets to the ceiling, but maybe not if you went with a narrow board.

If you're in love with that gentle arch on the right of your dream picture, draw a version for the bottom of your long run on graph paper, which will be your feature wall, and have somebody working on the kitchen make and attach it, or a local carpenter/handyman. I promise--a small-buck investment if done by a local. That lovely tile work? Choose painted drywall for now (drywall was my first choice and still looks good) and add it later. For your birthday?

BTW, your last picture looks very nice both functionally and aesthetically. I really don't see all the problem with cleaning the oven. Unless you're particularly sparkly-oven proud, how often would you be kneeling in front of it, however placed? Better yet, plan on having someone with longer arms do it for you. :)
