Teacats, so far this is what he has on one wall, LOL! Also, this picture is a better shot of the red without the orangey cast caused by the flash.

Love it! And congrats for letting him express himself with color (you may avoid future tatoos later on--at least that is what I tell myself, kids who are repressed act out in other ways).

My DD has orange walls in her room. First time she asked, we compromised with yellow walls and a purple accent wall; however, the following year when our remodeling meant I'd need to paint her room over and she was still asking for orange--we went for it! Though, we did a bright orange comforter, lighter orange wall with a bright orange racing stripe. When the hardwood floor went in--even that looked orange. But she loves it...and that's the impt. thing.

My DS's room is a dark blue, oak furniture and he wants to add more black to it. We are not swapping out the furniture since it was a significant investment, but we have added some chunky accent pieces in black plus a nice big bookshelf laid widthwise from IKEA. I think IKEA is a great place to shop for teen stuff. My DS even assembled it himself.

That turned out great. It looks like he has enough light coming in that window, that the red doesn't darken it too much. I really like the black furniture also. Is that new? I'm wanting to get some black furniture for my son's room, but can't convince DH. I may have to resort to painting :)

Thanks for all the kind words! Laurie, yes, the furniture is new. It is from Penney's and the color is called "Mocha". An espresso color. Thanks again, everyone! Another thing checked off my list! Hooray!

I remember this post from a while ago. I think it looks great and you did a wonderful job. Love the color you picked for the walls and especially the Led Zeppelin poster. Your son must have picked that.
My daughter picked the same color for her room a few years ago. It really was a PIA to paint, but looked great when it was completed. It's so nice and neat too!

You have lit a fire under my rear to get to painting my DS's room. I picked out a dark blue for his - bookshelves flanking his window are currently being built with a window seat in the middle - like yours!! I was thinking I should add bead board wainscotting so it won't be so dark but I think I'll try it w/o after seeing your DS's room.

Johnatemp, I considered the same exact thing with the beadboard, but with the builtins taking up the entire window wall and a double closet across from that, there would be enough relief with those remaining white. I figured, like you, I could add the beadboard later on if I think it needed it. It doesn't overwhelm the room like I thought it would. I just saw your post about your DS room. I'm going now to read it. Thanks again!

bebe, His furniture is the from Penneys. It seems fine so far. The night stand had to be sent back originally because it came damaged, but they are very good at picking up and reordering new. The pain with Penneys is that they do not unpack will only deliver to inside your door, not to the room, and no setup! We didn't discover the damage until after the delivery guy left and we undid all the packing, but like I said, they are easy to work with. The other great thing was, I had originally ordered it at full price. It went on sale before it was delivered, I called to let them know, and they adjusted the price for me!
