Someone on here has one. I can almost remember who it is. It was really well done too. I can see it in my mind- but not the name.

New home- build a platform with legs for it to sit on- don't put holes in the bottom of that trunk. You can make it out of thick plywood and stained legs to match.

hi - I did this with a big rectangular vintage suitcase - the kind with leather trim. I just got a basic unfinished wood leg kit from HD stained the legs dark and twisted them into the plates (that were included in the kit) that I screwed on the bottom of the suitcase - it coast maybe $15, took 15 minutes, and was super cute. No pics, sold it at the yard sale this summer! :-)

What a novel idea! I have a vintage trunk that's already being used as an end table for the futon couch in our upstairs TV room. I've always thought some type of coffee table in front of the futon would be neat. I do have a vintage leather strapped suitcase, too, that might work great as the coffee table idea, if it were raised. Now I know how I can do this - put short legs on it! Wonderful to get inspiration from everyone else's creative thinking! I'll have to show some pics when this project is all done.

And I agree with cooperbaily, don't put any type of holes in your gold rush trunk, newhomebuilder, use a platform for that historical relic!!

I love those legs on that chest...works great. If you have a vintage chest I agree that the platform with legs is the best option. You can always get a piece of glass cut to the size of the top also to protect it.

cooperbailey - Great idea! The trunk is not in good shape (the leather and brass straps are missing, as well as the escutcheon,) so I don't think a couple of holes in the bottom would hurt the value. However, if i decide to raise it, I'll take your advice.

I think the one in the photo would look better on a platform. Curlicue legs with a plain wooden trunk/box look very odd to me.
I don't see why the trunk needs legs at all, unless it has to be higher.

Great idea, but make sure you have a 3/4 inch plywood base under it or the trunk won't last long. They need the support of a floor or a trunk stand.

I think the "leggy" legs look odd with the trunks. I think I'd rather see the bun-type feet. Like in the link below.
