I know this doesn't take advantage of the depth of the cabinet, but you could use it as a bookshelf and put your cookbooks there.

Could be storage for those gigando packages of paper towels, too. :-)

I keep large, lightweight things that I don't use daily - baskets, ice bucket, some big bowls I use for serving at parties and in the easiest spot to reach I keep the lunchboxes on the weekends.

I keep large serving pieces (bowls, platters, large serving lazy susan) that I only use a couple of times a year in a cabinet like that. It's a PITA to get them down, but I don't use them much so it's not too bad. HTH

We keep our booze up there. We don't drink, so it's just sitting up there collecting dust mostly. But we do break it out for parties...

We turned ours into 2 pull-outs - they still look like doors though. Before I did this, I kept items that were not used much  mostly holiday serving things. Still, when I did want to get something out, I would have to take the stuff from the front and balance it on the fridge, then call DD to hold a few things, then hopefully reach what I was after. Then put it all back!

With the pullouts, you still have to use a step stool, but access to the very back is as easy as access to the front. I highly recommend this.

We also kept our liquor bottles up there  but being able to see everything we had at a glance and access the bottle in the back with ease was really great.

I had my cabinets installed yesterday and am amazed by the amount of space in that cabinet. I'm planning on storing my huge collection of Spode Christmas dishes.

Oh-I like the idea of more pull-outs up there!

My brain is still in another time zone or I might have thought of holiday stuff that takes up room elsewhere.

Plus booze-but do I want to make that HARDER to get to?

(full disclosure, I just usually drink w(h)ine . . . and DH doesn't drink at all)

That is a good idea about the pull out shelves. I think it is a great place to put things that are seldom used like Thanksgiving and Xmas platters and serving bowls.

I have several electric fondue pots above mine right now as I only use those 2 or 3 times a year.

I meant to also say that the TV might be good in that location for some folks.

We're hoping to put a TV up there, with pocket doors that slide back so you don't hit your head. It sounds like it might be a little late for that option for you. But I thought it would be worth it to share our idea.

Other than that, it would be a good home for a roaster oven.

Above refrigerator storage was dead space I was glad to get rid of when we installed our SubZero. I could never remember what was up there.

I have a shelf in mine, keep my wok and bbq stuff (skewers, bbq wok) on the bottom, roasters on the top. No, I don't roast much :). I also had an upright section put in for trays and baking sheets, but you said you didn't need that.

Vases, pitchers and extra teapots. Not used daily but used enough, and bulky enough that I don't want those items taking up space elsewhere in the kitchen.

We keep our electric griddle in that cabinet. It's a little too high for evryday things, but the griddle is something only my husband uses and he can easily get it out when he needs to. Our griddle takes up mose of the width of the cabinet so it's a good fit.
I will second (third) the idea of slide outs shelves - it would be much easier to get things at the back of the cabinet.

I put just a few things up there...but they are big, lightweight things. 2 five gallon pots and then a stack of monster size stainless steel bowls with monster size plastic colanders on top of them.

I keep seldom-used large platters on the top shelf and all my large mixing bowls and popcorn bowls on the other shelves. It is amazing how much room there is in that cabinet!

Big ole tupperware cake containers, a punch bowl, and tins for Christmas cookies.

I also keep pitchers, ice buckets, vases and big serving bowls.

I put two plastic crates up there, one to hold metal recycling and one to hold newspaper recycling. You can grab the open holes in the crate to pull them out.
