Hello I'm new to the site. I have been given a hot tub and i am trying to figure out how to turn it into a fish pond It cracked over winter so I'm just going to seal it.. It works ... So can I use the jets and it has a little built in waterfall ???I know the jets are powerful so I would have to find a way to weaken them.... Any ideas.... I would like to use as much as the original hot tub as possible .

How about buying a tub you haven't bathed in? We bought the Kohler Tea for Two whirlpool after I discovered it, I believe for the first time, in a home magazine. I finally got to eyeball the tub, but not the whirlpool version, at a plumbing supply store. It wasn't the same size I wanted, and it wasn't a whirlpool, but we ordered one anyway. While I love the tub and the look of it, we are slightly disappointed that the jets aren't stronger than other Jacuzzi-type whirlpool tubs we have been in. We even asked a company representative to come out and check it out, to make sure it was working the way it was supposed to. They said it was, but how would we know, as we never got to try it first. But along the same lines, we also ordered three toilets for three bathrooms, some of which we hadn't seen, and we also didn't know what the flushing was like -- strong, not so strong, etc. At the time, like maybe many of you, I was wishing someone would have a store where they displayed all these things in working order, kind of like a television or stereo store. You get to see the picture on TVs before you buy them, or hear the sounds of stereo systems before you purcharse. Why can't you know how toilets flush or tubs work? They even let you lie down on mattresses before you buy them! I can't believe we all spend so much money on these plumbing things and know so little about them!

I have two Aquaglas units in my house, but they are both acrylic. Acrylic seems much thicker, sturdier to me than fiberglass. We installed a one piece, no seams, in DH's bathroom about 18 years ago - looks as good as new. It also has the dome top with swing-out door with fixed side panels. I have an old one pice tub/shower combo that is about 30 years old (harvest gold - dont' laugh). It is still in immaculate condition. Will be updating that soon with another acrylic shower. Will probably go with AquaGlas again. I will point out that the one's I have looked at in bathroom fixture stores are much better quality than those at Lowe's - but they cost more also. It is recommended by the pros to put a mortar bed under the units, but I know that we did not. DH says he thinks they put some 2 x 4 type braces under ours. Regardless, even not using the mortar bed, mine are are very sturdy - no flexing at all. When guests use our showers, they always comment that they don't feel like the typical builders grade fiberglass showers. Tuesday

We are getting ready to begin finalizing discussions with our contractor. We have a tub and shower on one wall and I was thinking of undermounting the tub with granite and bringing the slab into the shower as a bench. Then we would bring one side of the frameless glass down flush to the tub deck. The contractor proposed tiling a half wall instead bc he wasn't sure how you get a seal I assume. I have seen many examples of this frameless look coming all the way down, but wondered how do you overcome the contact with granite and sealing? Thought someone out there might know. Also, I am hearing much negativity with using epoxy based trouts bc of set up issues and the fact that there are good, easy to work with grouts out there with advanced sealants. Should I just forget about epoxies?
