I was trying to figure out a similar issue I'm having and stumbled across this post and these comments. Was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a rounded inside corner (as opposed to a 90 degree corner)? The other issue is the piece I'm securing the fabric to extends out from there. I've attached a picture from the Internet as an example of the inside rounded corner I'm referring to. This isn't my project but this is very similar. The fabric was already secured to the top of the table insert with spray adhesive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just did a set of chairs this weekend... They were a simple slip seat (set with table bought off CL this summer for $70) and I basically did a very simple recover. First, I brought home samples of possible fabrics to use in my room. (One of the local fabric/upholstery shops lets you check out 1/2 yard pieces, so that is super helpful. DD loved this leopard chenille, and she gets these chairs later when she gets her own place. They go with a darling little table that is in storage in the garage right now.) And pick something that will work well in your room and will clean fairly easily. Sunbrella is good. Crypton fabric is good. And there are great deals on upholstery weight fabrics at Joanns/Hancock. Mine was about $24 per yard, but I only needed a little more than 2 yards. Use Scotchguard if you get something not already protected. Do not buy vinyl. Not worth the effort. If you can do so, spend $40+ on an electric stapler. Mine is by Stanley and I bought it at a local hardware store. Wish I had done that years ago!! I think probably 1" foam for your chairs, and regular upholstery batting. Buy a can of spray adhesive to adhere your cut foam to the bottom of the seat. It helps it stay put while you apply the batting and fabric. Like the others said, get someone in the store to help you. It's not hard, but doing it right by replacing all of the innards and cleaning the chairs very well before you begin, will give you a job you can be proud of! Red

Good job Dee! Am I remembering correctly that you recently retired (maybe a couple of years ago)? I bet you love having time and energy to take on little projects like this. Keep paving the way for me. I have a couple of years left. I see all these little projects that I would love to try and my thoughts are "oh..gee...one of these days...when I need to fill up the 24/7 hours I will : paint something or refinish a piece or sew some drapes or make a quilt or watch movies all day. Webbing over the opening, woven with about 1" between the weave,horizontally and vertically, covered with upholstery foam cut to fit, then wrapped with batting and then fabric. Leaving the seating base open, supported by woven webbing, precludes the potential 'whoopee cushion' effect when guests sit (or so my upholstery instructor stated 30 years ago.) It's pretty easy to do with a staple gun - did 10 of them in a day a couple of months ago. Just staple one side of the webbing, then pull down tight against the opposite side of the seat and staple the opposing side of the webbing and then cut to size - no special tools required for slip seat dining chairs other than a staple gun and pair of scissors, they're the easiest upholstered piece to reupholster. Go for it - you'll love the results!
