Ok, I think it's final, going with wood floor in kitchen. But...

But the kitchen and laundry area are connected, and I really don't want wood under the washer. It's a front loader and sometimes the seal leaks.

Here's the kitchen with laundry area around the corner. Please excuse the mess, I've given up cleaning for the duration. There was a door at an angle between the corner and the closet door and I just took it out. The door was always open and in the way. My original plan was to put the double oven cabinet at the end of the run and it would block the view of the washer and dryer, and not have a door or doorway. But then there is no good place to end the wood floor and begin tile.

I wonder if it would work to leave the tile under the appliances where it didn't show and have the wood everywhere else. Has anyone done that?
