Bosch Double Oven's (and warming drawer), any good?
Comments (6)Guru, THANK YOU for the crazy quick replies. Where did you get so educated in this stuff? I was quickly trying to do some research online and find out what the differences are between the POD302 and ME302ES. Besides a slight wattage difference, they seem to be the same, minus the appearance. While I think the POD is beautiful, I agree that the looks are not worth $1000 more. Since the Thermador are display items, they are last years models and are only convection on the top oven. While I don't see needing both to be convection, both of the Bosch ovens are, so I am getting a very similar oven design with an extra feature for over $1000 less. You are helping me quickly decide in one direction. Any reason to throw Kitchenaid into the mix?...See MoreWolf E series 30" double ovens vs. Thermador Masterpiece Double ovens
Comments (9)I have duel 30" Therm convection circa 2006 and love them. Others here have indeed had problems but I've only run the self-cleaning once or twice and I think that's where the trouble came from. I do hammer both ovens at 450 & 525 often (bread and pizza) for hours on end and both ovens at the same time and they have been problem free. They also seem to stay clean at that temp. As for top, bottom or both - both if you have the budget:for the flexibility. If only one, figure out which height you are most likely to be most comfortable with using most often and choose that one for convection. One note - my ovens are loaded with neat convince features like the temp probe, delayed bake, timed bake, etc... I use none of them. I do use the standard bake, broil, roast, proof, warm, fast preheat, and the convection pairings, but none of the "smart" features. Carefully consider your cooking style before paying for the next upgrade in the line. I was so very tempted to kill the budget with an extra 2k or so on the Meile with the internal rotisserie and a few other features - pretty sure I never would have used those either....See More2 ovens in island or 1 oven and a warming drawer?
Comments (24)2 of you mentioned the dishwasher should be on the other side. Is that because of the available counter space as a prep area? I chose the right because my current dishwasher is on the left and I wish it was on the right. Some insights would be appreciated. A kitchen has 3 main zones. Prep, cooking, and clean-up. In a perfect world, these zones don't cross too much so that multiple users can accomplish tasks without running into each other. We don't always get our wish, of course, but you have the room to set it up well. Dish storage can be in the drawers/uppers on the left or island. Your primary prep area is the counter between the sink and range/cooktop. Having a dishwasher in the prep zone means anyone helping you clean as you go or needing to grab something from a clean load means the prep-er will have to move out of the way. Why did you want it on the right? To access dish storage? Because you're right-handed? Assess why the current locations doesn't work for you....See Moredouble wall oven vs microwave convection wall oven
Comments (5)I just removed a 17 yr old KitchenAid oven/microwave combo. The convection oven was great until recently, but the attached microwave died after 2 years. I'd advise to get separate appliances, not attached combo appliances. If one of the attached appliances fails, it's an expensive repair. We've been using countertop microwaves for the last 15 years. I replaced the oven with a GE Twin Flex double oven. I had a shelf built above it & a new outlet installed, and put a new countertop Panasonic mw there. So glad to get the microwave off my counters! . I looked at the small convection/mw speed ovens -- many here love them. But I wasn't sure how much ventilation space we'd have for one. Plus if the Panasonic fizzles out after a couple of years as microwaves are prone to do, it will be easy to plug in a new one. Here's the Twin Flex, two ovens in the space of a single oven. So far, it's been terrific. I'll post a picture of my set up tomorrow, even though the mw isn't trimmed out yet....See More- 15 years ago
