Need to replace dish drawers -- with new dds? or with std dw??
Comments (12)I replaced my out of warranty Miele dw with F & P tall dd and love them. I had read about the problems and did purchase the extended warranty. I bought the dw locally and my installer assured me that he had installed LOTs of them and felt that most of the problems were due to installation errors. He seemed very confident during the installation as I watched him like a hawk. My dd has not given me any problems so far and I love being able to run small loads frequently. Sometimes I run my top drawer twice a day. I love having two cutlery bins. Occasionally a dirty piece of cutlery is left but that's about it. No way that my dd is as quiet as the Miele that it replaced but it is still not too loud. Perhaps, that is because it is in a space that is smaller than 24", since my Miele required a smaller space. The noise is not annoying. I would not hesitate to recommend the F/P dd. I love not having to bend over to load the top drawer and have to remind myself to use the bottom at least every few days....See Moredrawer dividers, organizers, shelf liner?
Comments (32)helou, Yes you are correct. I needed to first rip the boards from their original 4 inch width, down to about 3 inches to fit in the drawers. (or about 1 3/4 inched for the front section of the silverware drawer. Also once I had the boards the correct width, I needed to carefully cut the boards to length. Then to get the boards to the correct length a powered miter saw is the best option, but again depending on what tools you have available, maybe a hand-held circular saw and a speed square, or a miter box and a hand-held pull-saw. If you have a table saw, ripping the boards is trivially easy. If not there are probably a number of other ways to make the boards the correct width. (The easiest might be to find a friend with a table saw, and ply that friend with a bottle of wine, to cut them to width.) But you should also be able to do it with a straight-edge and a hand-held circular saw, or maybe even a straight-edge and a utility knife....See More2 tier cutlery divider
Comments (6)The cabinet is setup as two large bottom drawers and a smaller top drawer. I want to keep my utensils in the cutlery divider. I have two spots I can put it in. There is a 30" cabinet and a 27." Just based on other up charges, I think the price difference would be around $50 more to put it in the 30in. Do you think that it would be better to install it in the 30in base? I've read on these forums that it is best to wait on the inserts. I will probably buy aftermarket knife inserts and see how the other cabinets get used. I know for sure I will need an insert for silverware. On a side note, I'm almost finished with my kitchen order. I am getting pricing on a blind corner wall cabinet that is 42" or 43" long. It will replace a 21" and a 24 in corner. There were just too many small doors on that side. For some reason, the blind corners do not go all the way to the wall. There is a 2" or 3" space. Schuler builds the blind corner with a turn, so there is no need to add a filler for the adjacent cabinet run. I just thought it was odd that the do not go all the way to the wall....See Moreutensil drawer help needed
Comments (9)For my 36" drawer under the cooktop, I got 3 expandable bamboo dividers at Tuesday Morning, and I also put a knife block in there. I have the utensils separated by broad categories of my own devising - cooktop, baking, prep, and cutting or opening things. I can grab everything very quickly, although it is not as beautifully organized as some drawers I've seen on here....See Moreboone_2009
