Changes to Don Gardner Keaton plan?
Comments (3)Why are you so focused on this plan given your many, not insubstantial concerns? When it gets to the point where you want to make these kinds of changes, listen to the inner voice that should be telling you that this is not the right plan for you. In addition, with that complex roof line, significant changes will result in significant redesign, and significant added costs. My advice is to find a new plan to get enthused about. I can empathize. We recently found a large piece of antique Chinese furniture that we fell in love with. After a couple of days of figuring out where it would go in our house, and playing musical chairs with our other furniture, we realized that we would be totally rearranging several rooms just to accommodate this one piece of furniture. Sometimes beautiful things just don't work out......See MoreHelp a newbie/dreamer
Comments (1)Actually, the best way to educate yourself is to go into cabinet places and talk to them about the choices just as if you were planning to do it right now. Having a long time-line gives you lots of time to do homework. Check out the interior of cabinets--what they are laminated with. Good quality cabinets have a wood veneer instead of the paper. Medallion cabinets are really good cabinets. Have 3/4 plywood sides. Altho, MDF also makes a cabinet strong too. You can upgrade the Medallion cabinets to the wood veneer on the interiors. Look for cabinets with strong drawers and very good quality slides. Cabinet places will educate you on drawer construction and what kind of slide is the best quality....See Morein today's market, low-end homes sell faster?
Comments (22)Behavior: If you don't like being a homeowner, then you will HATE HATE HATE being a landlord. You are not only a homeowner, you also have to maintain something that someone else doesn't usually care for as much as you would. And, you have to maintain for someone else and because of this you often have to do so faster than you would for yourself. renters won't weed or put out mulch, and the list goes on. It is hard work and worry and a lot of responsibility to be a landlord. I was a landlord and am telling you from hard learned experience. It is, in my opinion, three times harder than being a standard homeowner for a home that you live in. And I had good renters. My advice to you...either sell it outright, or stay there. Don't rent it out (even as option to sell) and don't do owner financing either. just make a clean sale unless you want to carry extra worry (with small amt of control) with you for the next few years. Please tell...why do you no longer want to be a homeowner?...See MoreHow to decide on refrigeration? High versus low end.
Comments (14)To be precise: The boxes of Miele fridges are made in the same factory as BSH (I read that Miele originally built the factory). Their fittings and electronics are separate, so there are some real differences. Acaba, have you read consumer complaints about Miele fridges? I haven't seen them. I did have an issue with my (five year old) Miele freezer, that was partially operator error and partly that it worked too well. I overused the Supercool feature, and had a full freezer (i.e., less air circulation) and I froze the fan and evaporator. Over New Year's. Because it was New Year's Day, I called the appliance store and they sent a tech the next day who was throwing out ideas but didn't know what the problem was. When I called Miele, they sent someone promptly. The issue was resolved by defrosting the freezer. Similarly, when I couldn't figure out how to reset the change the water filter alarm, I called the service desk. They talked me through it on a few separate occasions (I was having trouble making the controls respond), and gave me a more complicated, but easier for me, way, which I now have written in my manual. Hint: If you screw up the routine, close the door and do something else for awhile. The freezer doesn't like being open, and responds best when the door hasn't been open for awhile. When my icemaker quit, the service desk explained how it works, with a pin in the tray to engage the mechanism. Sure enough, when I took out the ice drawer, I found where an errant ice cube (pillbug shape, really) had frozen itself to the back wall and prevented the pin from engaging. I popped out the ice, and everything was back to normal. I don't think I've had even a peep from the fridge. I couldn't figure out the instructions for removing the filters for cleaning, so I called the help desk and they patiently explained what I should be looking for. That's it. These are the 30" columns. This is only one person's experience, but I have found the units to be exceptionally reliable, and when I've needed help, they've been right there, patient, generous and knowledgeable. The help desk has an 800 number. ;)...See Moreherbflavor
