It sounds like an 18" difference will be enough, but are the 2 items going to conflict in terms of "importance" or focal point> It might look like there's too much going on in that one area. We ran into a similar situation with a very tall faucet conflicting with our island pendants. I chose to move the faucet to the sink under the window. We only had about 12" between the faucet and the pendant, so less than you, but it seemed that there was too much going on.

That's what I'm worried about. Perhaps if I hang the pendants a bit higher it will be less of an issue--it is just so hard to tell since we are having soffits removed from this area and I can't tell exactly where the light will hang.

DH says we should go for it and we will make it work, but it is hard for me to double (or triple) what we were planning to spend on a faucet when I'm not sure if it is too overwhelming--it is almost as tall as the sink is wide!
And as we live in a pretty rural area, I have nowhere to see one in person.

Hi honeychurch, I'm sorry I didn't see this post before now. What did you decide to do about the faucet/light conundrum?

In my opinion, if you love the faucet, you select a semi-flush or more inconspicuous light fixture(s). If you love the pendant you bought, you stick with your "meh" (lol) faucet.

I completely agree with mahlgold above and this is something I am struggling with so I can relate: every feature cannot be the star.

I'm actually battling a similar gantry faucet vs light fixture issue. My KD is urging me to do 2 or 3 smaller pendant lights instead of the one larger schoolhouse fixture I planned for above the sink with the Gantry.

I can't disagree with him-2 or 3 little ones would look much better. What I can't get around is that one light above the sink has the classic/old house vibe I want to stay with.

The gantry is definitely not classic/timeless-it was my one "sexy" item for the new kitchen. I have no idea if I'll love it as much in 5 or 10 years and now I am second guessing whether I should go back to the "meh" faucet I'd previously settled on (Danze Opulence pullout) so I can stick with my classic lighting choice.

The electrician is waiting for an answer on what to wire above the sink and I'm having a terrible time trying to decide.

I'm sorry I got you second guessing your faucet choice, too. Of course, alternately, I'm thrilled if you really loved the gantry and decided to go for it. Someone should! :)

I had this same struggle and ended up deciding to keep the pendant and go with a simpler and lower profile faucet for reasons of visual focus. Though, there are days I still drool over other beautiful faucets and delay ordering the lower profile (read: more boring) faucet chosen. I try to remind myself that I don't have to have everything I think is gorgeous. (I have to tell myself the same thing when I go clothes-shopping...)

But, everyone's kitchen is different, and there's no reason both a cool faucet and pendant can't be accommodated. Totally depends on your space and style if they work together.

We had a similar decision of faucet and a pendant light or faucet vs. a pendant light, and ended up with just the tall pre-rinse faucet. Lighting is a ceiling can over the sink. And you know what, we love it! The faucet is like jewelry for the kitchen. It is polished chrome and sparkles in the sun (we have it in front of a window and when the light hits it, it's awesome), and at night, it brightens up the whole kitchen.

We've only had it installed a few days. Now that it's installed it is clear that a pendant there would have been the wrong choice for us. Here is our reasoning: the pendant would have too fussy for our kitchen's decor and style. Our kitchen is small, and the decor is neither modern nor traditional, but leaning toward the modern. Also, because the sink is in front of the window, a pendant light would have interfered with our view of the yard. And, the can light is the perfect spread of light to have right there. We put that can on its own dimmer switch, so at night, the kitchen can be dark, but there can be a "mood light" over the sink which highlights the faucet like sculpture, and is practical too in case you want to get a drink of water or something in the evening you don't have to turn on all the kitchen lights. So, that was our reasoning and thought processes for choosing to have the tall faucet with its own dedicated can light but no pendant light.

Um, went for the Towson Gantry in the American Bronze finish! Then, of course, I had to get the matching RO faucet to replace the standard chrome one there now... ;-)

I spoke to our GC and he said there should be no problem doing both the pendant and the faucet. My thinking is to hang the pendant slightly higher than normal, and also slightly further back than the faucet to reduce competition. I have 73.5" between the ceiling and the counter.

Here is my pendant with specs for those of you who know how to figure these things out, I sure don't!

I am very excited to see your gantry in that bronze finish! I'm so tickled that I enabled someone to blow their budget with something they love ;)

Where are you in your remodel? (we're just finishing our plumbing rough in and should be embarking on electrical this next week-if I can make up my mind!!) Sounds like you are further ahead and we'll get to see your gantry first...? I hope you'll post pictures when you're done.
