Raising Counters-What about Uppers?

I've been reading with interest the threads on raising counter height. My husband is 6'5" and for 20 years has had to stoop to use our sink, which is the 1950 undermount version(!). I'm doing undermount again and asked our contractor about raising the height of the counters. His response was that if the counters are higher, the upper cabinets should be installed correspondingly higher too, which makes sense. However I'm a foot shorter than my husband and at 5'5" I don't want to set up the kitchen so *I* can't easily reach upper cabinet shelves other than the lowest one.

So, anybody have insights on how raising the counters works in terms of the upper cabinets and the spacing between? I have ordered my cabinets but install isn't till August so I assumeI have some time to ponder and/or request adjustments if necessary.

Thanks,

Ann
