Granite Shield marble sealer with a lifetime warranty
Comments (16)No worries, everyone. I've been lurking on here for some time and finally decided to post as demolition was completed on Sunday and I must make a decision soon! I love this site and appreciate all the comments. I'm just looking for honest feedback. Something about Granite Shield seemed iffy to me, but since my fabricator recommended it I wanted to check it out. From what I've read here it seems that applying the wrong sealant can ruin your marble, and it sounds like you need to make sure your fabricator uses the same sealant that you plan to apply later yourself. A lot of people seem to speak very highly of 511 on this site. Is this what you would recommend?...See MoreBest Granite Sealer
Comments (22)Just did a comparison between Akemi Nano Effect and Miracle Porous Plus on Absolute black flamed granite tile: Both sealers are excellent against water (it beads up). Two coats of Akemi and even a single coat protect against water, espresso, wine, and olive oil (right). Porous Plus (right) darkens the stone a bit more (this is 24 hours after application), and resists all but the oil well. The negative control of untreated is down the center. Conditions left to right: 0.5 mL of distilled deionzed water, hot espresso, red wine, and olive oil. Top 1/4 (two coats of sealant applied 4 hours apart), top middle quarter (single coat), bottom half (two coats, applied immediately after one another with 5 minutes to soak, then wipe). Have some Tenax Proseal coming tomorrow to compare to Akemi, the clear winner here....See More$770 to seal granite "permanently"?
Comments (19)Just for reference, the 511 porous plus (there are many kinds of "511", some far cheaper), costs, where I live, approx $90/quart container. From my reading it was considered "the best", but it sounds as if there's something better out there. It was, fwiw, recommended by a fossil guy turning fossils to art, so that may not be the same heavy-duty need as a kitchen countertop. OTOH you could always just wipe up the wine. I agree that doing the "work" of sealing is trivial: as stated, if you can wipe, you can "Seal". The hard part, in my kitchen, is moving all the cr@# off the stone. That in itself may be worth hundreds! ;)...See MoreGranite failed stain test - what's next?
Comments (13)White granites are very porous and will require correct sealing with high quality sealers. Some stone people will tell you that kashmir white is technically impossible to seal due to the composition of the stone. Simply put it is a sponge. However the quality of impregnating sealers have been getting better all the time. I have sealed many white granite tops and while some never seemed to pass the water test even after large quantities of sealer others fared much better. IMO the best way to seal these porous surfaces is to do very heavy coats left to load on the surface for up to 30 minutes. Then remove all traces of sealer residue from the surface and let cure for 24 hours or so. Then do the water test. See if it is less porous then prior to sealing. Then repeat the sealer application again and again until the water test shows the stone is less or a good bit less porous.Always remember sealer are temporary defences against staining agents left on the surfaces.
