I love our FKB, but have you looked at Houzz?

I never heard of this website before, but one day I wandered into the Bath Forum and asked if there was a FBB. No, but for inspiration photos they pointed me to Houzz.com

Just wanted to let you know if you want some nice eye candy, pop over there and take a look. You usually won't find all the details of the photos, but wow, there are some great photos of kitchens, baths, foyers, stairs, family rooms, wine cellars, etc.

lol - Houzz was the site that brought me to this forum! I guess what goes around certainly does come around!

I agree, nice wishlist pics there, and some decent filtering on room/style.

Worldmom, you got a chuckle from my DH. He's only received one reply on his post...he doesn't feel bad or anything. I told him that he'll get used to the forum speak that we use here, and get a better sense of what info he needs to provide to get responses. Haha... True, witht he lights on they do look like polished brass when in reality they're polished nickel. Catsam - The counter stools are from a Canadian company called Urban Barn. I initially loved them, then hemmed and hawed for awhile on them, and got a nice nudge from my fellow GWers that they were the right fit. They are AWESOME...comfy and stylish. Wait, I realized you recognized them from Urban Barn. Are you from Canada too??? Dave counter stools, $199 each. I know your kitchen very well, I think they'd look great in your beautiful space. Here I am with another photo...not meant to tease, sorry! Don't know why they're coming out blurry though.

I really don't know why I didn't think of this earlier... about storing all member photos on the FKB server. I guess I figured it out be outrageously expensive to host all the photos. But the cost of storage has gone down tremendously (an extra 20GB on picasaweb costs only $5 per year), and I am making small change from the ads on the FKB. So it's definitely do-able. I replied back to gellchom with a message similar to this. Please feel free to mention this when you send out your emails (although it's probably too late for most of you). Sample email: There are a couple of options for getting your photos back onto the FKB. Option#1: Upload your kitchen photos to one of the online photo management applications (photobucket, flickr, picasa, etc.). Remove password-protection from your kitchen album or members will not be able to view your photos. Email the link to me. (Many members choose this option because they like managing their own photos.) Option#2: Email all your kitchen photos directly to starpooh and she will upload them onto the FKB's photo album. Her email address is: starpooh@gmail.com. They will be put into a separate folder (similar to outwest's kitchen): http://picasaweb.google.com/starpooh. If, in the future, you decide to remove your photos from the FKB just send an email to starpooh and she will take care of it. (Some members are choosing this option because they don't want to worry about keeping track of their kitchen photos. They also do not need to worry about password-protecting their personal photos.)

I am getting close to 50 and the biggest change I've noticed is my feet. I keep them well moisturized and do my nails same as always, but the foot itself looks bonier and thinner-skinned and just old. My toes even look longer. I wear sandals 9 months a year so this is hitting me where it hurts. I have had good luck with my skin, which I attribute to wearing SPF 15 every day since age 24 and not smoking. I just started to get a line between my eyebrows this year, even though I am a big scowl-er due and squint-er due to poor vision. I do wish I paid more attention to my manicure, but I don't. I buff smooth every Sunday night and leave it at that unless I am going to a special event. I think updating eyeglasses and shoes is important for me to feel my best. I am hunting for new frames now and always on the lookout for comfy shoes that don't read "old". Some funky/casual styles that gals with smaller feet can get away with look like orthopedic shoes on my size 10s. Others' responses remind me that I need to drink more water and sweat sometimes. My DDs are makeup hobbyists and they really like TooFaced, but it hadn't occurred to me to try it. Hearing that the lipstick lasts may send me rummaging through their stashes--pale lips are my genetics and I hate them!

Gevork, my sis lives in carlsbad and has a small backyard. she packs a big punch w/a lot of foliage though. I'm posting it so you can see what's she's planted against her fence, and the type of hardscape and garden stuff she uses. Here's her front. (it's a rather small house) behind that fence is a nice patio/courtyard she does a lot of succulents, plumerias, ferns and a bazillion others! If you did succulents, like she's done here, they don't require a huge amount of tending. you have the perfect climate for them. add some hardscape like a path, rocks, pebbles, birdbath, fountain, plant a few fruit trees, or container plants. (there's a huge nursery she goes to in Escondido ) here's the back This one is mine. another option against your fence could be something easily done by you with a raised flower bed. I did the teak wood path myself and used flagstone/pebbles with it. our styles aren't too far apart! i

I can't remember when I found Houzz, but it was after finding this forum. I love it also, but I get a little frustrated when finding things in photos that I like, but can't figure out how to find out what they are. I am technically challenged, and also usually too tired (after being on here for hours on end) to figure it out.
That is one thing I really like about this forum- everyone references things so well.

I remember Houzz, before I found gardenweb. There's also DecorPad. You can never have too many sources for beautiful kitchen pics!

I know what you mean leela4 about not being able to ID items, but with our skills, we are able to cut the photo from there, and post it here (or just link to the photo is probably more of the correct thing to do) and ask GWers to identify products!

I love decorpad too, especially the ability to search for paint colors.

I sometimes wonder if I am so addicted to this (GW) forum that I will be continuously scrolling through here for years unending even waaaaaay after I'm done with this remodel . . .

While I do like the photos on HOUZZ I get the feel that most of the phtotos are magazine like, unlived in kitchens. Not to mention that most of them are white. I'll stick to the FKB. Much more realistic.

I spend time with Houzz every night before bed. Even if I only have a spare 10 minutes. I love it. I especially love how easy it is to copy the html code of all those images. Every time I offer an idea via pics on this forum, it's because I grabbed them from Houzz.
