That is one beautiful wall!! But you left us hanging for the rest of the kitchen - after that teaser we have got to see it! I also went with a less expensive tile (Dal Rittenhouse arctic matte white) and love it. My kitchen style is a bit different from yours but those inexpensive tiles - well they look fab!

I too would like white subway tile an as the budget is ballooning, seems as if my hopes for a (gasp) $12-$24 subway tile option may be fleeting. This just may be the answer!

Thanks for the positive comments. It's not even 8am yet and I am having a rough day, so the little spots of sunshine in my email inbox helped ;)

I am having a helluva time getting everything put away and in order. When it looks less disastrous, I will take lots and lots of pics and post.

I second the praise for the cheap Lowes (American Olean) subway tile. I was able to fearlessly learn to tile my entire bathroom wainscoting for the price. If you're a total restoration purist it's too rounded on the edges to match existing historical tile, but for the rest of us it's just perfect.

Your kitchen is lovely, but what I really want to know is how you manage your summer roll wrappers. I've tried to make summer rolls before, but my wrappers always end up a gummy mess. What the heck am I doing wrong? Sorry to hijack, and thank you in advance for any help.

That's just gorgeous, and the grout is amazing! I wouldn't have had the courage to go with dark gray, but I LOVE the outcome. However, you are mean to make us work so hard to see mere snatches of your kitchen. When, oh, when, will we get to put it all together in one place?!? It is amazing, what I saw of it... it's a good thing I'm finished.

The mirror, over the sink, adds dark and light drama.

you have angled plugmold under your wall cabinets. This keeps your wall clear.
you have three wallmounted faucets. This makes sense too. Better views onto the counter and the wall.

let me tell you, i make a mean cherry pie and i have already resolved myself to the fact that i must only pit them OUTSIDE. there's no way i could get cherry juice anywhere near my marble counters! it's a good thing cherries are in season summer only. i would hate to sit outside in sub zero temperatures pitting four pounds of cherries!

Kate--Honestly, the sealer on my marble is doing a great job. No stains! We have polished on the perimeter cabs and honed on the island. There are a couple of tiny pitted parts on the island that, to my hyper-critical eye--seem to be a bit discolored, but everywhere else the sealer is kicking ass!

SJMitch--The sink is a custom job in Belvedere soapstone from M. Teixeira. This is the second sink I had made by them (we had a 40" Cobra in our last kitchen) and, as I've posted elsewhere, am really happy with their work.

The sink is counter depth--meaning 25" from apron to wall-- and 9 & 3/4" deep (exterior measurement). One 40" bowl and one 20" bowl. LOVE it! Makes cleaning up for a slob like me much better. Just pile all those dirty pots and pans and rags in the big bowl and I still have the small bowl free for...more cooking!

Belvedere was not my first choice in stone (would have love something light like Python) but it is the hardest *and* the cheapest. I think it looks great with the carrara counters and white tile with gray grout.

While some people are like, "Whoa, girl. What you doing with such a big sink?" I personally think bigger the better. but like I said, I am a slob.

I got it from Tasklighting.com, as recommended by this site. And yes, it is angled. It can be seen a wee bit when seated in the dining space, or rolling around on the floor, but I don't think it as fugly at all.

Scared off by people's complaints that the white was beigey, I got the brushed steel (or whatever the metallic is called) with gray plugs. It really matches the color scheme on that wall so it doesn't bug me a bit when seated.

You know I absolutely love your kitchen. And that shot. It perfectly captures your kitchen. Classic, romantic, evocative, individual.

That is absolutely beautiful. You trusted your gut and it did NOT steer you wrong. If more folks would do that they would be soooo much happier with their choices. I'll say it again - beautiful (and the 23 cents is just icing on the cake). I want to see more.

And I did cheapo subways as well. Mine were Menard's--12 cents on sale! Woot! (Though I just went with plain ole white grout.)

I'm also a sucker for big sinks! Though large, ours aren't quite as big as yours (single bowl is 48" wide and double bowl is 38" wide). So I'm VERY JEALOUS!!
