What we did:

Painted the existing cabinets with Swiss Coffee eggshell

New crystal knobs and cup pulls

Demo-ed old tile countertop and put Caeserstone quartz countertop in Nougat

New sinks (Kohler) and faucets (Hansgrohe--spelling?)

All new appliances

Refrigerator--Jenn-Air floating glass side by side

Ovens--GE Monnogram Advantium, GE Monnogram wall-mount oven

Cooktop--Jenn-Air electric downdraft stainless

DW--Miele

New backsplash--Hakatai glass and marble mosaic

New lighting

We are lucky to live in a house with ocean view, so we wanted to match the new kitchen with the view.

The process was much less messier and faster (2 weeks except for the wait for the backsplash tile) than our bathroom because we used the existing layout and cabinets, but we really enjoy our new kitchen--both functionality and aesthetics.

Okay, here's a better photo in which I got as much of my new kitchen in one photo as I could: It sure is hard to do that with a narrow space. for those of you who wanted details, here they are: Kitchen is 11' long by 6' wide on the right wall, left to right: 24" cab with pull out shelves (love this for my pots and pans) 24" sink cabinet 18" d/w 30" stove 15" cabinet The cabinets above correspond in width to the cabinets below on the wall with the fridge: 30" cabinet above fridge 15"wide by 96" high utility cabinet Thanks for the compliments re: the backsplash. They are not glass, but ceramic, and at the far less price of ceramic! One of the things I liked about it is how much it resembles glass. It's a light green cracked subway tile by Adex.

It sounds like you're gutting and doing a total remodel. Yes? If so, I think it's too soon to be thinking about focal points and other design features. Get the layout right first. A good layout design will give you good workflow. Search for Marcolo's excellent ice-water-stone-fire post for that. Basically, this means that workflow should be fridge to sink to counter to stove without criss-crossing or other unnecessary steps to prepare food. A good layout will also give you good storage. This means that you have enough space for the things you need and that things are stored at or right next to where you use them. Again, to eliminate a lot of criss-crossing around the room to prepare a meal. Once those items are figured out, then start thinking about focal points and the feel of the room. For example, your cooktop might not end up in a place where it makes a good focal point so don't think about things like decorative hoods yet. Function first. Form follows function.

Great job! Looks fantastic! Know you're thrilled! At some point, you might consider getting the Ikea "Forhoja" island cart <http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80035920/>; It's narrow and is a great landing zone between sides of a kitchen when there is no room for an island but it's a bit wider than a galley kitchen. I painted the base of mine black - oiled the butcher block top. It just sort of disappears, but I love the drawers and shelves.

I’d put the lemon tree or topiary to the right of your range area, just to balance out the tall glass cabinet on the left. I’ve done the same in my own kitchen - put a tallish topiary to the left near the window, to balance out the tall glass cabinet to the far right. Also the wood trim on the bottom of your vent cover is making it feel unbalanced with the black and white drapery. I would put some decorative wrought iron hanging on your range hood cover to give it more presence.

I love the changes! Your kitchen is now so bright, happy and beautiful. I love the new refrigetator, the stools, the kitche cabinets, the refinished floors, and so many other amazing details. Thanks for sharing. Hope my links above help others have a chance to see your beautiful modern kitchen.

Then afterwards, it has the area to do this on every message before you reply. I only know how to do links and not insert pictures.
