Need Help with my Farmhouse Sink and Disposal

Hi,

Can someone help me with this problem? I bought a Rohl farmhouse sink, along with an extended flange (Rohl ISE10082) to connect to the disposal, which was recommended because of the sink's thickness.

I bought a Waste King 1HP Legend Series Model 8000 disposal. My plumber now tells me that the flange does not seem to be compatible with this disposal.

Is there anyone out there who has the Rohl farmhouse sink with the Waste King Model 8000 disposal? Maybe I need to buy a different flange? I hope I don't have to go out and buy another disposal. I spent $150 on it and it's non-returnable. Uhhg.

Would appreciate any help you can send this way. Thank you!

Waste King makes their own extended flange that you might need to buy. I'd first call insinkerator tomorrow and ask if their flange is compatible. If not, return it and get this one.

Thanks. Great idea to call Waste King and see what they say. The extended flange in the link you pointed to was for their "3-Bolt 9900 Series Garbage Disposers." Mine is a model 8000, not the 3-Bolt type. I hope they can offer me a good (inexpensive) solution.

I’ve had a 30” Shaw at a second home for 10 years and still love it but decided on the 33” Kohler Whitehaven for our new kitchen reno at home - it was such a price difference and looked so similar. I actually like it better! I especially like the slight slant of the bottom to the offset drain. Much easier to rinse scraps into the disposal. It’s still new but it does seems like the Kohler finish is easier to keep clean. We removed the Kohler logo (which was crooked anyway) so it’s just all white and looks great!

I know Insinkertor Evolution has a compact model (which I have two of) which is shorter. It is a smaller diameter. Are you pulling your sink really far forward or is the hole in the sink in the front because I have never heard of this situation before, I have an apron front sink that is 1.25 inches forward and there is at least 6 inches till the compactor when I open the doors.

Typically recommended that GDs not be used with septic systems. If you plan to have one I've never heard of there being any that are better or worse for septic systems. I had one for years before I bought a home with septic. The new place had one but I rarely used it. It's pretty easy to adjust to not using one especially if you compost which you can usually find a place to do if you have a property with a septic system.

You want to look for an ”extended disposal flange” for a fireclay sink. I would contact Waste King and find out which of theirs matches your disposal so you know it will fit your disposal. The other thing you need to look for is whether your plumbing drain that goes out the wall under the sink (i.e. out the house) will be lower than the disposal outlet. The plumbing outlet in the wall needs to be lower than the disposal outlet for gravity to work. Sometimes a disposal mounted under a deep sink (9” or 10” deep) plus the extended flange make the disposal outlet lower than the plumbing in the wall. If that happens, you can either move the plumbing drain in the wall to a lower position, or the easier solution is to buy the Insinkerator compact disposal (along with the Insinkerator extended flange).

Hi you might have your answer by now, but you need an adapter because I too have the 8000 model. The girl at Waste King is sending me the adapter, but cautions that with the extended flange,and the 3 bolt adapter, the disposal might be too long. The extended flange is $60.00 in white. I'm not buying it until I talk to the plumber tomorrow. Good luck!
