Garbage disposal for septic system and farmhouse sink

About to embark on a kitchen remodel. Need advice about garbage disposals that are safe for septic systems. The other issue is that I am getting a farmhouse sink so the garbage disposal needs to fit underneath in the shortened cabinet. Any others solved this issue? Thanks so much in advance.

No special GD for septic, just don't over use it at all. I only used it for drips and drabs, not for getting rid of all food waste.

Typically recommended that GDs not be used with septic systems. If you plan to have one I've never heard of there being any that are better or worse for septic systems. I had one for years before I bought a home with septic. The new place had one but I rarely used it. It's pretty easy to adjust to not using one especially if you compost which you can usually find a place to do if you have a property with a septic system.

You will need to buy the extended flange kit if you are getting one of the fireclay sinks. And you will need to decide which color you wish for the flange as well. They come with a standard depth flange in stainless that will fit 97% of all sinks. It's just the thicker fireclay ones that need the extended flange. And of course, if you prefer nickel or oil rubbed bronze for the flange, that can run into some money. They all use a standard sized drain hole (1 1/2" pipe), so you don't need to worry about that unless you are purchasing a prep sink to use with a disposer. Some of them use bar sized drains (1 1/4" pipe) that are too small to work with a disposal. If that's the case, and you anticipate using that sink as a prep sink, then it needs to be switched out to one that has a standard sized drain.

I have a garbage disposal on my farmhouse sink and have had no issues. I had to purchase a deep flange in order for the disposal to be installed on a farmhouse sink properly. Here is a link that might be useful: Deep flange

We are able to make the sink work (see above video). Unfortunately we won’t be able to attach a disposal to the sink but we can deal with that. My remaining question is would you expect the granite fabricator and installer to replace the sink and slab since they drilled through the back wall to accommodate the poor hole placement on the slab? I feel like they should addressed the sink thickness when measuring for the template. The most recent attempt at installing the faucet leaves a small hole visible in front of the faucet and doesn’t allow the faucet to “seal” itself to countertop, thus allowing water to leak into the cabinet. My main concern is that if they are able to make this work, what happens when we replace the faucet in the future?

For fitting under a deep sink, look for a compact model. For those ceramic farmhouse sinks, get a longer throat(?) piece.

They do make them that spray enzymes to help break up the food. GD for Septic

Insinkerator has a model with a triple layer of cutters and enzyme injection.
